partioning a hard disk

i have a mac dvse running 9.0.4 with finalcut pro and i would like to partion my hard drive so that i can keep my system software on one side and my video stuff on another. how do i do this? do i need special software to do so? and if so what is the best software for the job?

the software you need came with your computer 
the program of interest is called Drive Setup, located in the Utilities folder of your MacOS CD.
Note: backing up before partitioning is stronly recommended.

backup? i'd say it is more than strongly recommended, it is absolutely neccessary because reformatting means you must reinit that HD and we all know what that means...
or we should all know what it means!
you can use MacOS Help to explain the Drive Setup procedure(s) but they are quite straightforward and easy to do

The latest version (4.0) of FWB's Hard Disk Toolkit claims that it can repartition without data loss.

i have found that sticking with Apple's Drive Setup if at all possible is best
third-party drivers? only if absolutely necessary...
