hello all, i recently bought a new 17" iMac (woo hoo) and was overly eager to play my Warcraft III on its gorgeous widescreen. To my dismay when I attempted to run the game in its native rez (1440x900) the game looked fantastic but played horribly choppy, to the point where control of the units was near impossible. i tried to bump down the rez and settings, ultimately putting them at their lowest, and still got the choppy response while playing.
Is anyone else having this kind of problem with WC III? or does anyone have any suggestions in improving the performance of the game?

i have the stock 256MB that came with the machine. more RAM always helps but why would the game run just as bad on its lowest settings (640x480x16 with all set to "LOW") run so choppy? i would give the iMac some credit to be able to play the game at such a low setting

Boot into mac os 9 and see how well it runs. I find it annoying booting into 9 all the time but it actually runs well. Heres a site you might want to look at. Someone got this quote from Blizzard:
Warcraft III is optimized for Mac OS X 10.2 and up as long as you have the version 1.04 patch installed. However, Mac OS X is still slower at certain Open GL functions than Mac OS 9. As Apple removes the driver problems which cause this in Mac OS X, the game will get faster on Mac OS X. We are also looking into additional speed increases for the Mac
OS X code in the game.

since these are the new iMacs, i've been desperately trying to boot into OS 9 but i think Apple may have incorporated the OS 9 lock out in my machine, since i can't see my 9 system folder on "Startup Disk". I took your advice and went to the Blizzard website and updated the game to 1.0.5(?). thanks for the advice, could it be possible that my optical mouse is causing the problems?

since i began this thread, i've been desperately trying to fix my performance problem on WC III, but the stupid game just won't give me ANY mercy on any kind of reasonable performance.
Now i KNOW my iMac would be able to handle this game since the game runs beautifully on her black Dell PC (P4 1.7) with just regular 256MB SDRAM and a GeForce 2MX. The game ran on 1024x768 with maxed out settings and was flawless.
Are there any other 1ghz iMac users out there that have the same performance problems i have with WCIII? For cryin out loud, i put everything on its lowest setting and still get the choppy playback as if it were on the highest settings. Any feedback would be great.
oh, and i've updated to 10.2.4 also, quite a large download too, almost as big as 10.2.3...

I just installed Warcraft 111 on my new 17" imac and it runs fine in osx. I did however purchase an additional 256 mb of ram, for a total of 512mb.
