Yeah, after the country's unemployment rate hits 30 per cent because of Cap and Trade legislation, the Congress wises up and repeals it. Unfortunately, it takes another twenty years for gas to come down to two bucks a gallon.

I laughed throughout the whole trailer as I was just counting the number of landmarks that idiot director could find excuses to destroy. One trick pony.

Apple - Trailers - 2012
An extended scene has been released. This looks about a crazy as it could possibly get... but I guess I'll go see it. I hope it doesn't suck.

I'm going to throw my scientific monkey wrench in here and tell everyone that the Mayan calendar doesn't end on 2012, it's just beginning the next cycle. It's like claiming the world is going to end on December 31st because the calendar "ends."
Here're some other days where the world ended based on the Mayan calendar: March 13th, 830, June 15th, 1224, and September 18th, 1618.
There is also no "galactic alignment."

Sigh.... why even have actors in a film. Just two hours of CGI destroying of things? People would still see it, and it would cost far less to make.

2012 the year should be as much fun as y2k. This reader comment posted at Survive 2012 says it all.
What will hapen is that the Age of Aquarius is beginning. Thus, we see so many nature disasters – flooding in Asia, flooding in India, flooding in New Orleans – that have everything to do with water. — Now, in some books (James Redfield’s ‘Celestine Prophecy’) it states that the entire Maya society has not disappeared, but gone to the higher vibration dimensions. — As we know it today, we are in the third dimension. By 2012, the Earth will come up to the 5th dimension. — The ones who are not ready yet, will die by the nature disasters. Yes, that sounds awful, but remember – death is just anther start. Then, their souls will be transported to another planet with 3rd dimension, where they will level up onto 5th dimension with time. — As for the humans here, well it says that only 1/3 of Earth’s population will come up on 5th dimension. You will see Light and you will have a choice to come up to the 5th dimension, or remain in the present 3rd one. — In 5th dimension, you will nave a new DNA string, you will be able to communicate by telepathy, et cetera. — Right now, many guardian angels, which are connected with each human on this planet, are preparing humans to awaken. Many angels, elfs and space people have chosen to reincarnate here in these times.
Point of curiosity. Are angels, elfs and space people Mac or PC?

I've had an (irrational, but) horrible fear of tsunamis since I was too little to even know what they were. I saw the teaser trailer (big wave washing over the Himalayas?? while a monk gonged) in theatres and nearly had a panic attack. Got all clammy and cold, got hard to breathe. I WON'T be watching that.
And I'm getting scuba licensed before the REAL 2012, just in case. Bejeesus!

Now thats a plot twist I could get behind!
As long as it features a kevin cosner as a mutated fish scene. Or a fish that looks like him. Either or.

This film looks like a CG artist's wet dream.
Though I don't believe in any particular end of world scenario (anymore), I do question the integrity of Roland Emmerich and his exploitive treatment of 2012. I suppose he's not alone, judging from some of the books and videos that are out there. I hope nothing in this film comes true and the whole idea fails miserably. Ha, that'll show him.
I do believe that we are entering a new age - the age of aquarius - and with that should come a change in the way humans treat each other. Time to evolve.

Freudian (or, I don’t know, Jungian or something) slip to indicate some disgruntledness with the current job situation?

Given his track record, I'll bet he is. Exploiting is a bit of a strong word there, I don't think he's actually trying to scare anyone.
The only reason why I'd like to see it is because of the massive amounts of CGI, but by paying money I'm supporting crappy films. Oh, what to do?

Exploiting is a strong word - which is why I chose to use it. Roland is exploiting people's worst fears as entertainment at a time when we need it the least - the entire Fox news generation believes this sh*t. That's purely opinion, but I doubt I'm alone on that.
But yeah - that cgi looks incredible. I'll probably go see it just for that!

Exactly how does a movie where the world ends... end?
I don't think a recession economy wants a movie about the end of the world. How about something a little more uplifting?

How do you MAKE money by praying on their fears? Wouldn't people that are actually afraid of 2012 avoid the movie?

I think it's a case of morbid curiosity. Like the way people slow down to look at a car wreck. Only in this case you're being charged for it.
(I may show up at the premiere with a "The End is Near!" sign) not really.

You think. IMHO this human ark stuff is nonsense. The government will be building ships full of all our computer records and other financial info, so that if by some miracle any people survive on their own they can start taxing them again double quick. I would imagine the "arks" will full of civil servants, financial chiefs and the military top brass, and racks and racks of hard drives.

No, I agree with you. I know a lot of "car people" who are smart, but fairly uneducated, and they're worried about 2012. WTF.

watched 2012 last night... the CG is pretty amazing, but the story line sux major balls. It spends 2 hours on the build up and finish the whole thing awkwardly in the last 20 mins or so. My gf literally fell to sleep next to me.

Yes, not expecting much, but going to see it tonight anyway. Even if the story sucks, which apparently it does, I'll enjoy the effects.

Hasn't made it to the DR yet but I think I'll wait till it's out on video. Found this review entertaining:
'2012' Sucks Worse Than the Mayans Could Have Predicted
My favorite line from the review:
"The characters aren't even characters, they're single personality traits dressed up in human suits."

I saw 2012 over the weekend.
The effects were decent, though I must say I'm still reeling from this cinematic calamity - which, btw, makes "Poseidon" look like fine Shakespearian theater in comparison. More after I recover.
