Tried out Bing yet? Seems pretty nice. I test out search engines by using my name ctt1wbw and seeing what pops up. This did a pretty good job.

Well, there is a pretty background picture featuring balloons.

There's nothing more I like about the internet than popups. Thanks Microsoft.

Reminds me of this. "Let's take our Live Search, give it a retarded background and call it 'Bing'! That'll bring down Google!"

PC World even asked Microsoft about this similarity, and the company confirmed via e-mail the primary difference between Bing and Live Search is the user interface, which the company claims is more intuitive.
I can't see too many people switching over to it from Google.

It's good to see Microsoft thinking about user interface, but they really don't seem to have thought that deeply (or at least creatively). The new UI just looks like a hybrid of Ask.com and Google and has no novel features that I can see.

Also, balloons? Microsoft's rep as king of the random stock photo is unblemished.

On the bright side, telling someone to go "bing yourself" is kind of fun.

I wonder what Bing Crosby would say if he were still alive. He'd sue. He'd get the lawyer from the McDonald's coffee case and sue.

Microsoft's new porn search engine...

Not that the same can't be done with Google or anything else, but funny nonetheless.

"From the standpoint of the new state-of-the-art search engine, [the video preview] is a really neat thing of course," Hughes said. "The flipside of that is that you've got an abundance of pornography out there."
I don't see the problem?

Just the fact that they've got a bunch of stupid, unrelated stock images on the site is reason enough for me not to use bing. It's a typically MS thing, adding stuff that nobody needs.

Good design is not when there's nothing left to add, it's when there's nothing left to take away.

How ever its received by the macintosh community (which is predominately ant-microsoft) it has been well received in the media, and it seems the consensus is that MS finally got it right with it.

I'm not sure if they'll make any headway against google at this point however. I've not played with it, and I doubt that I'll use it over google.

FWIW: Bing apparently had more of a "usage share" than Yahoo did since it's launch. Not sure if that's good for Bing, or bad for Yahoo. (or both).

Seems Balmer can kick some sand at Yahoo now.

Yahoo shouldn't be scared. I believe they are reigning supreme with Yahoo Finance, which Google Finance can't even touch.

Apparently Microsoft is dropping nearly $100 million dollars advertising their "Bing-a-thon."

I upgraded my parents' iMac to Safari 4. The first time I opened it, it gave me the welcome screen. I pointed it to MacNN, and sometime in there, a new window popped up with this url:
Code:
http://www.bing.com/?scope=web&mkt=en-US&FORM=MFEHPG
I'm suspicious.
