I reinitialized the hard drive (OSX) because I had unknowingly downloaded a Trojan. Now, AppleWorks has completely disappeared. When I tried to download it from the Apple site, it wouldn't install because it couldn't find a destination directory, and the installation was cancelled. Anyone know how to get around this problem? Thanks.

Which trojan?

You can not download AppleWorks. It's not free. Neither is it part of the operating system. You need to restore it from the system restore CD that came with your computer.

The trojan was disguised within an MS Office for Mac download.

I did use the Mac-supplied CDs but AppleWorks didn't install. I did a completely new, clean install.

If it came with your Mac, then it should be on the system restore CDs, but it's possible that it came on some other disc with your Mac. Have you looked through these? If it's not there, then it should be on the disc you received when you bought it, since Apple doesn't sell its software for download.

Hmm...

Here's a tip: Don't download pirated software, and you won't run into this type of trojan.

(Unless you're talking about a MS Office file containing macro virus/trojan code).

I know. I'll never do that again, for sure.

I'll check the discs again to see if I can retrieve AppleWorks only. I don't know why it didn't reinstall when I reinitialized everything.

What machine is it? Also, check www.apple.com/support and search for your specific model and restoring AppleWorks.

I have it back now. I contacted Aple Chat and the rep sent me a support article explaining how to re-install the AppleWorks app only:

Thanks for the help. Great forum.
