I'm not into war movies much. But ... this looks good.

July 2017. Written & directed by Christopher Nolan. Based on a true event early in WWII.

It kept reminding me of Saving Private Ryan.

Just watched the trailer posted. Looks boring. Needs more people dying for me to watch.

They showed an obnoxious 6-minute preview for it at the head of Rogue One. Everyone laughed after it was over.

Dunkirk was the flip side of D-Day, when the Allies lost the continent in 1940. It would be 18 months before the USA joined the war. Until then, Britain had to hold out mostly alone. A sizeable portion of their forces were cut off on the mainland, along with surviving French and Belgian forces. (the port city of ) Dunkirk had to be evacuated over about a week, or anyone left behind would be killed or captured by the German Army.

If those men had been lost, Britain would have been weakened going forward. Hitler had planned an invasion of the UK. It would not have worked in 1940 (the Royal Navy was too strong), but would have remained on the table if the UK had weakened further. It's not impossible for a complete German victory at Dunkirk to have led to a "Man in the High Castle" future today.

I'm not sure why people would be laughing. Dunkirk was important.

Watched it. For a defeated, starving and desperate army they sure look like a bunch of male model wannbees. I though war movies were more realistic now. This looks like a WW2 themed pop video for a boy band.

People laughed because:

1) We wanted to watch Star Wars. This 6-minute preview was just insulting. 30 minutes of trailers altogether.
2) Nobody knew WTF it was about since the scenes were all disjointed.
3) The sound was VERY EFFING LOUD. Too loud.
