It's the exact same screen that Apple uses in their 20" display. Is that a fantastic deal or what?

It's actually a newer revision of the same panel Apple uses.

That's amazing. Why is Apple's screen so overpriced?

I actually bought one of those when it was only $400 due to a combination of coupons.

It is a very nice monitor for PC's, very clear and responsive picture. Only problem is that I it doesn't seem to have that good of a picture with macs. When I hooked it up to my powerbook, I had to really mess around with the settings and I still couldn't get it great looking. It seems to have gamma issues with macs, but other then that its a excellent monitor. It has a built in multi port button which can switch the port with the press of a button. Very handy when you have the monitor on multiple systems. The ports it has is 1 DVI, 1 VGA, analog, and s video.

Through Dell, using coupon codes. That's what sucks -- you have to find the codes, and you never know what coupon codes will be available.

Right now, it's not that price.

I think that everyone who is considering the Dell 2005 or 2405 monitor should take immediate advantage of the current low prices.

We need to dry up the supply channels of these two Dell monitors so that Dell can introduce the 2007 and 2407 HDCP compliant versions ASAP

Ummit's under $400 for a few days now. Get a coupon on eBay and it's even cheaper. I may pick one up.

Apple really needs your money better than yourself ...

Ok, I got this screen working here for a few months. I use the DVI, the VGA-Input for a second Mac and occasionally the S-VHS for some PS2-Gaming.
It's really a good monitor for a fair price, the only minimal downside is the backlight, which is not as smooth as Apples. But you won't recognise this until you stare at fullscreen black or any other monochromatic screens.
So that explains the price difference a bit. Anyway, I like the multiple inputs, Apple simply offers nothing here. I also like the tilt-function and the mechanic to move the screen up/down or left/right. And finally i prefer a black case over a bright one.

For the Dell owners - How is the quality of the Dell Displays.
DeusExMachina posted that the picture isn't as good on a mac as a Pc. Can anybody confirm deny this? I'm in the market for a new display, but I get concerned over posts such as these.

Seems like FUD to me. This 2405FPW is gorgeous -- on my Mac.

It even comes with a Mac preset for the color balance, though I opted to tweak my own.

I have the 2005fpw and like tooki's experience, mine has been great. Some people have had dead pixel problems or backlight problems with the 2005fpw, but I think that it was from a certain timeframe - I have a newer one and have had no problems.

I've been very tempted to pick up another, but I'm waiting to see what Apple comes out with on the 1st (not display wise, I'd rather save my money and go with a cheaper display).

My only regret is that I didn't wait and get a 2405FPW because it has inputs I could use, but I keep telling myself that I'd rather have two 2005FPW's side by side

both of my new 2005fpw's are awesome. gorgeous image, no backlight issues, but 1 dead pixel in the bottom left of 1...no big deal. still totally excited with them.

Great monitors. I'll buy an Apple display again when they learn not to overprice them for what you get. (We all know that will never happen). My 2nd 2405FPW just got here right now. Got it for $799. Dual 24" for less than the single "30". My wallet loved that decision. I just want to pick up a dual monitor VESA stand now and I'm all set.

That Picture says it all

I have an awesome G5 tricked out nicely with an ATI 800XT and tons of ram, having the dell monitor sitting on my desk is tough. I'd much rather see an apple display.
Here's the tale of the tape though

Apple
Price 1299
Size 23"
Brightness 270cd/m2
contrast 400:1

Dell
Price $799 (discount ending on 3/22/06 regular price 999)
size 24"
Brightness 500cd/m2
contrast 1000:1

I'm having a difficult time justifying spending 500 dollars more for less specs and a shorter warranty. Still the apple monitor is a thing of beauty,

I don't really know what the brightness cd/m2 really means but I think the higher the number the better.
