Presume this is a USB drive?
Does the drive show up in System profiler or Disk Utility?
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

Odd. It looks like a USB issue that caused the crash. If you can't see it in DU at all, the drive may have failed. Can you test it elsewhere?

I connect using firewire, you mean firewire issue. I will try it on another computer if I can. this is poopy I just bought this like a week ago.

I was curious and signed out of my account and onto a basic Test account that I have from another thing.

Ran Disk Utility and the drive shows up but shows this in the Information area:

.........Disk Description : Maxtor..........................Total Capacity : 298.1 GB (320,072,933,376 Bytes)
.........Connection Bus : FireWire..........................Write Status : Read/Write
.........Connection Type : External........................S.M.A.R.T. Status : Not Supported
.........Connection ID : 4707151023305007.........Partition Scheme : Unformatted

How would I do this? Will this make it show up in my other user account also, and will I lose data on the drive?

You use Disk Utility to format the drive. Judging from you have posted it suggests the Maxtor isn't formatted and therefore doesn't have any data on the Hard Drive - If you know this to be wrong then I wouldn't format it and try it on another machine.

If you haven't got any data on the Maxtor then follow the URL below to format it.

Formatting & Partitioning a Hard Drive in OS X - Tiger

You just need to follow the instruction up to step 8, unless you want to partition the drive as well - but best to see if it works first.

Remember formatting will erase any data on a hard drive
