Wow, I managed to sync my palm through InfarRed last night after tweaking a few communication settings and not screwing anything else up! Success is about 10% and unfortunately I can't find any documentation on how it's supposed to be done. Anyone here know?

How did you do it, and what kind of computer do you have? I have an old Performa 630 with an infrared port, and don't know how to use it.

I inherited a Palm V with no cradle and can only sync with infra-red. It seems to work fine every time.
I'm using a Powerbook G3 (pismo) and have HotSync 2.6.1
As I remember there's a set of extensions which you have to install on the Mac and two little things that go on the Palm (I borrowed a cradle to install these).
I did have problems on restarting from sleep occasionally which I associate with leaving hotsync manager enabled permanently. So now I manually enable it when I need to sync and manually disable it immediately after.
The rest of my communication settings vary (sometimes Airport, sometimes ethernet - isn't location manager a beautiful thing?!), but I never have AppleTalk set to using infra-red when sync'ing (I don't know that this would cause problems, but I suspect it might).
I hope this helps....

1. Upgrade to Mac OS 9.1(has better IrDA support.
2. Forget about the Add-On Files.
3. Upgrade your Palm to OS 3.3 or higher
4. Install PalmDesktop 2.6.1
Sync via IrDA.
Note: Perf 630 does not have IrDA. Its only a Sensor for Remotes.
Greets,
Morgoth
