Any thoughts on a new version of iWork and features options it may or may not have? I really think its about time to turn this in to something extra great..

Keynote doesn't correspond to Excel. It's the counterpart to PowerPoint.

Of greater interest to me is how iWork works as a cloud app. Creating solo local documents is great and everything, but the collaborative thing is how you compete against Microsoft, I would think. I'm not sure what MS offers as far as a cloud based Office version, if any, and I've never used iwork.com so I don't know how it compares to Google Docs (although one advantage Google Docs must have is that it is free), but this seems like the best way to make inroads and the best area to focus attention.
I don't really know how local document creation can be further perfected anyway, in general.

Where's the option for "so cheap it's almost free" ??
We might see an iWork update to go along with Apple's education announcement tomorrow.

About three years ago Mac Heist gave away a pretty neat package that included Mariner Write.
It reminded me of the ease and simplicity of Apple Works and Claris, which its clearly a rip off of.
After I used it for a quarter in college I trashed all of my Microsoft Office applications and iWork.
Since then I have had to only reinstall excel.
<insert cool story hansel>

haha.. typo now edited... I don't think I've ever used mariner write.. I don't mind the last version of appleworks actually.. I do wish iWork would increase in speed, maybe a 64 bit version?

Mariner Write is ok but Nisus Writer, Mellel, and Beans, are better and faster. Word 2011 is pretty good as well. I have Office 2011 and 2010 (via Parallels) and use 2010 in a virtualized environment because 2011 isn't nearly as good on OSX. Leave it MS to <beep> it up for us.

I hate to say this but I don't think it's looking too hopeful. iBooks Author looks just like Pages. If they have just released a new application which appears to have such a similar codebase as iWork 09 applications then surely the long overdue update may not be so soon.
Here's hoping for news soon.
