I switched from Mac OS 9 to Mac OS X at november 2001.

But we are at 2004... maybe this topic could be discussed again...
Best regards from Colombia!

Mmmmmmm, I have 10.3.3 on my Ti800... and yet, I spend so much of my time in os9... to me it is still a truly awesome OS... and though many people here may say os9 has seen better days, it's STILL on a par [if not better imho] than XP... but that's another story...

In short, I just LOVE Macintosh...

Everyone I know with a computer that can run Mac OS X has made the leap (last one a couple of months ago). All are loving it.

I'm sticking with OS9 until my beige G3 no longer does what I require of it. That could be forever. Like others have posted, I'm not willing to buy new versions of a bunch of software that still does what I want it to do. If it works, don't try to "fix" it.

haha...... I was wondering if anyone was gonna challenge that.

Personally I don't answer misstatements anymore, if it was a question asking if iPods work in OS9, then yeah.

iPod Software 2.1 no longer allows OS 9 support, supposedly -- you have to revert them down to 2.0.x. Or so I heard.

Still on OS9 and no real need/reason to switch. Plus...
No native Exchange client in OSX. A must for my office.

I use 9 when I need a speed boost out of this G4 iMac. Sometimes I just want to use VPC or I can't stand the frickin X Finder any longer. So for those, 9.x it is. Besides, that's when a Mac was a Mac.

Don't tell me VPC isn't meant for this or that. I have two PCs I could use (and do at times) but I run too many various OS's for a "real" PC.

I'm still using OS9.1 on my Duel 500 PowerMac .....
Can't afford to update my software to fully run on X, along with upgrading my other hardware such as the Epsom printer and Umax scanner, as they are not supported by X....
And although I've not used it, I still can't get around the size of the Dock hogging the screen, rather than my nice small and neat control strip......

But .... having just forked out for a 15 inch PB, I guess I'll try and hang in with Classic for the software that I have, and look at upgrading where I have to......

Just a reminder, we are replying to a post that was dug up from 2 years ago....

Personally, I tri-boot ....but I don't really see how anyone's life may be enhanced by knowing that.

Lol! Sounds like the classic remark from the 2001 era.

OS 9 is great if your only goal is to get your job done.

OS X 10.3.x is great and very addictive for your daily iLife, AND you'll get your job done. (BTW: My unsupported y2k Epson printer works like a dream in Panther thanks to the built in OpenSource drivers)

Like you are stuck in OS 9 right now, I am stuck in X. I find that amusing.

Sniffer gone old-school sig

Right on the button .. I'm up to my eyes in lectures that I'm writting and working on .. once the students have gone, and I have the time over the summer .. I'll take the full on plunge into X

Now that is interesting about the Epson... as usual I guess its a case of playing around to see what will, and will not work.....

I'm sure I shall be seduced by the darkside ...... see you on the X discussion forum soon
