Would someone please be able to give me some help with Netscape
6.1? When I have NS open and go up and pop down Format/Font/ I
notice that I have the following options:
Variable Width/Fixed Width/Helvetica, Arial, Times and Courier.

My question is, this is the only choice of fonts that you have to
choice from? What happened to having choice of all the fonts loaded
in your system as you did/do with NS4.76? How do I get the option
of using any font that is loaded in my system? I also noticed that
when you are composing a new message and go up to the same Format
menu. The font is gray so that you don't have the option. I have
everything set up to use ComicSans and when I type a message, it
appears as that typeface and all incoming messages appear as the
typeface also. Another question is why is it when anyone receives my
email, it comes in Courier? I have sent myself an email to work as a
test and sure enough, my ComicSans turns into Courier. :-( I have the
settings set as HTML. I have looked in the help section of the
program for what it is worth, but that is really not of much use.

I really hope that someone might be able to help me with this. Perhaps
I don't have something set correctly, but I really thought that I did.
Anyway, I have asked more than one question, sorry for that, but I
really would like to get this new program working, but if this is what
the new NS give you, then perhaps I will go back to using the older
version. Thank you all beforehand for any help and guidance and I
really did not intend to make this post so long.

Thanks again and regards.
From Lakota, who is on a G3 PowerBook with OS9 and wants all the
font choices again.

Well, I guess I don't understand your first question, maybe I am tired, but I just can't figure out what exactly you are asking. Hopefully some else can but I can offer a few tips:

1. Ditch Netscape 6.1 and get Mozilla: http://mozilla.org

It really is Netscape 6, but it is ahead a few releases... it's the same software, seriously. No Netscape bloat, and much fewer bugs.

2. WHat's new:
Completely re-written
New rendering engine
Fully standards compliant
Multiple email accounts supported
IRC Client
Themes
Enhanced privacy tools
Sidebar
Enhanced "what's related" in sidebar

just a few of the new things. It's overall a 100% new program with an old name.

Thank you for your response. To answer your comment on not understanding the first question. Let me explain. In the older versions on Netscape, I always had the pick of every font loaded in my computer. Being a graphic artist, there are many of them. I was always able to use any of them when composing or reading email. Now I notice that when I go up to FORMAT in the menu, and choose FONT, the only choices that I have are VARIABLE WIDTH, FIXED WIDTH, HELVETIC, ARIAL, TIMES, and COURIER. Also in my NEW MESSAGE window when I pop the menu down inside of the window, only the same choices are available. In the old NS, again, I had an unlimited choice.

Now everytime I go to check my mail and click on the mail icon, I get a message saying UNKNOWN ERROR 804b0001. Perhaps you are correct. Trash the program and use something else. I have never used Mozilla, but will look into it. Perhaps there are others who might want to comment on the new NS 6.1 Although it is SLOOOOOOOOOOOOW it works find except for the mail part. javascript: x()

As for the font "problem" the reason why they did that is because these are the only fonts that are on virtually every system. This is because Mozilla (in your case a branded version of Mozilla known as Netscape 6) is 100% standards compliant and isn't proprietary. All of these options will work correctly on whom ever recieves the email.

Go with Mozilla, I think you will like it more. It is a few releases ahead (Mozilla is at 0.9.4, while Netscape 6.1 is really 0.9.2.1)

>It's sad to say, but I am positive it is to late for me to restore my faith >in humanity.

just as a general note, macvillage.net, your sig is incorrect. You need "too late", not "to late".

not trying to be the grammar police, but this might save you some harrassment later.
