hi all... i recently acquired a nice G3 iMac 'Snow' for my baby sister, her first computer... the machine specifications are 500MHz G3 processor, 640mb of memory installed (128mb & 512mb) along w/ an 80GB Seagate 7200rpm drive, partitioned w/ an 8GB boot partition... lastly it has the stock slot-loading DVD drive.

what i am wondering is whether Tiger would be appropriate for this machine, or if it would be better left running Panther as it is now... i honestly have no clue here.

if anyone could offer an opinion or input it would be greatly appreciated... my sister will not be running any heavy-lifting apps i am sure, mostly web surfing, email, iTunes and occasional cd burning w/ an external Lacie FW drive, so if one OS is going to run faster on this machine i'd really like to know before proceeding...

thx in advance all..!

Tiger should run faster than Panther. You should see a significant improvement with Tiger in Safari and Finder for example.

Tiger.

I switched my 400 MHz G3 iMac DV with 768 MB RAM from Panther to Tiger, and it made quite a difference.
