Hi, friends!!!

I am trying to help an old friend check a VIN for a used car he wants to buy. I've looked around the web but can't find anything that's free. I wonder if anyone here might have a subscription to such a service?

If so, can you check this VIN and see if the car is legit? 4s3bg685xx7658532

THANKS!!!

Um, all your posts are off topic and totally unhelpful.

Is there anyone who can help?

To the OP: you can get like a 30-day Carfax subscription for $10, I think. Might be better than nothing...

If you know anyone who sells cars, they most likely have a Carfax membership and can look one up for you.

Lexpro: I remember having this same source of frustration. Lots of websites claim to offer free VIN checks, but they don't. You might want to contact the seller about getting a copy of the report?

This is probably the best way to do it. One caveat...I've sprung for a Carfax report in the past and found that the information you get back can still be incomplete. Details can sometimes be lacking.

I assume this car is being sold by a private party? These days, most reputable dealers will do a Carfax automatically, just for their own information.

There aren't really any free VIN history services, simply due to the amount of time it takes to build a vehicle's history. I'm afraid you'll have to pay for a Carfax.
