I hope this post is in the right forum. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Once AT&T sets up tethering with the iPhone, will I be able to connect to the regular iDisk/MobileMe service with my Macbook? Will I be able to remote connect to my at home iMac?

I ask because at the school I work at (anti-Mac, anti-MobileMe--in fact blocked), I can't access work that I have stored at home. I would love to just access lessons, presentations that are at home instead of having duplicate copies on the laptop and home computer--or have the ability to access at home files "just in case".

Tethering may allow me the work-around I'm looking for.

Thanks

As far as I know, yes, to all of the above. I'll try it later.

On the other hand, an you install software on your school PC? In which case, try dropbox, Dropbox - Home - Secure backup, sync and sharing made easy. as a solution.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Honestly, with the outdated PCs the school is providing, I would rather use my personal Macbook to do everything (presentations, showing students things on the web, online grade book, etc.).

If you can, you could install Hotspot Shield on the PCs (or on your MacBook) to get around the firewall and access your home files.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm not messing with our school's tech department. I got called in for requesting a longer ethernet chord because I moved my desk three feet further away from the port...

Any reason why tethering wouldn't work?

Variation from a standard is scary for a security person. Why the need for a longer cable? Hooking up something unauthorized (and by definition unsecure)? That is why security people act that way.

Next time your mission-critical systems go down because a security variance somewhere lets something nasty in, remember to call the security guys "nazis." Enjoy the experience.

And of course, this has NOTHING to do with tethering a computer via an iPhone. We like to keep things on topic, remember?
