In all seriousness, pr0n will follow, not lead in the HD wars IMO.

If both HD-DVD and Blu-ray are with us for some time, we'll see pr0n on both formats for some time.

VHS yes, but I don't see how adoption of cameras, DV, and camera phones were significantly affected by pr0n.

P.S. I'll have to wait to check out the link until I get home.

Well its also easier to understand HD-DVD for non tech people, for example, HD-TV (easy huh), so when you say HD-DVD you would think 'High Def-DVD player. If I was a tech novice and someone said 'hey you get a Blu-Ray player yet?' I would be WTF is that. Does it synch with my phone wirelessly? Thus to me HD-DVD is easier to market to the consumer. IMHO

already being done....a number of adult houses are releasing multi-formats. what may likely become the deciding factor is the greater capacity of Blu-ray. While HD is much more efficient and thus still able to fit standard lengths on a disc despite its lesser capacity, the competing format leaves more room for, um, xxxtra content.

anyway, a number of the largest adult production houses are already betting on Blu-ray.

The comment about HD-DVD as a name being loads more marketable isn't one to be overlooked however. There are a lot of pretty simple people out there, and I've always been a huge proponent of names that SAY what a thing does...when you're pitching to ultra mass markets it's really hard to go wrong with that, compared to something that simply sounds cool.

I think the PS3 will be more of the deciding factor. As well as data storage.

For movies they are pretty much neck to neck right now.

gonzo pron + homemade - stuff people show me on their phones... oh dear...

+ home movies, you know what I mean.

VHS was most affected but I believe DV has been helped by the pron industry. cameras and camera phones I'm probably pushing it a bit.

But, as soon as people were able to record images - some of the first images recorded were pron.

The only decision the PS3 will prompt is, "I don't want to pay $700 for a video game system."

It will also prompt "I don't want to pay $1200 for a blu-ray player, I'll get a $600 PS3 instead".

HD-DVD plays Blu-ray disks? Is it an option on the PS3?

Don't be silly.

People (besides geeks) don't really give a chit if it's Blu-ray or HD-DVD. They'll just get whatever's cheapest, as long as the HD quality is good and there are a reasonable number of titles available.

However, in truth, I don't think $500 is cheap enough. The first technology to the $299 price point wins.

OK fine a $500 HD-DVD player that does NOTHING but play movies. I don't see anyone saying for another $150 they get all the PS3 has to offer.

Game consoles are for gamers and geeks.

Dedicated players are for everyone else.

You're saying the 10,000 that rushed out the first week to get HD-DVD players are not geeks?

The ones that are part of the HD wars right now are 100% geeks.

Of course. But those purchasers are not the ones that will make or break the formats.

Just 10,000 the first week? The PS3 is expected to burn through millions of units and sell out.
