Now that I'm a new Macbook Pro owner I'd like to possibly subscribe to some Mac magazines. I'm definitely going to be getting Macworld, but what others are out there? The only other one I've heard is called Maclife... is that any good? What other magazines are worthy of subscribing to?

Thanks!

MacAddict, which is now MacLife, used to be good. They took a dramatic downturn in quality about 3-4 years ago. I'd go with MacWorld these days.

That sucks, I grew tired of Macworld a while ago and switched to MacAddict. But I haven't subscribed to either in years.

Pretty much all the Mac magazines out there suck right now. Macworld reprints the same exact features with different words every two to four months it seems.

Computer magazines are dead - there's no information that you didn't read two months previously on the internet.

I used to get MacAddict for years when I was younger. At the time though there weren't really any news sites where you could get new up-to-date info. Now everything's plastered in a thousand different places the moment it's available. I admit that I have picked up a few handy tips in recent years. The occasional useful terminal trick, and other little things. For the most part though, those tips aren't worth $20 for a subscription. It's wasted paper for a lot of things, and I don't get into the "digital life" thing, where all their articles seem to be targeted.

Yeah, I do have to say the good ol days of when I'd get a bunch of computer mags in them mail. Now sadly they are all so out of date, thanks in large part the internet. For computer magazines, there's no real information in them. Its all 2 months old.

I really liked getting macaddict in the days before I had Internet at home, the cd that came with it was full of free and shareware and got me interested in software.

I still like the magazines for the tips and other insights that you don't find in the news. Yea the tip is out there but I would never know what to google to find it or think about looking for it in the first place.

I agree with Ssharon. I would never come across those tips and they are useful. But that's not enough for me to invest in a magazine.

Yes, but only up until 1997. By then, the internet was a far better source of software than a CD...

Don't bother with the magazines. They tell you very little that you can't find earlier on the Internet.

well we got our powermac 7100 in 1994 and even in 1997 when we upgraded to the g3 we still didn't have fast enough internet to be downloading random junk.

I get popular science now instead of any mac magazine

I have an RSS feed for MacWorld and MacUser right in Mail. So much simpler.
What, me worry?

I will put in a vote for MacLife, née MacAddict, as it's the only Mac magazine from which I still learn something useful from time to time.

Is MacFormat still good? It was one of the best last I knew. Though expensive in the US since it was a UK mag.

There have been no good computer magazines since the mid 90s. Print is dead for computing.

I used to love MacAddict with its included CD. I still get it as MacLife, but probably won't be renewing my subscription, there's no content I haven't already seen, and the whole MacAddict feel has lost its edge since Macs have gotten more popular.

I still like whatever they're calling Layers now but that's just for Adobe. Tutorials and step by step stuff for the Adobe creative suite.
