I second your question, Sakino.
the two modules have the EXACT same specs - so why is one $65 more than the other? can anybody else see a difference in the two sticks? i'd love to get 1gb of crucial for $130 to pop in my 12" rev D....

I purchased one of these
http://shop1.outpost.com/product/438...H:MAIN_RSLT_PG
on June 15. It's on backorder, according to my 'Order Status' page.
To anyone that's ordered one of these, how long did it stay on backorder before you actually got the RAM? (Hoping I can still cash in the rebate!!)

I've seen people mention that sometimes upgrade memory doesn't work after sleep mode. Does anyone know which brands work without problems in sleep mode? MemoryX (Yahoo! shopping) sells a brand called 'swissbit' . They claim that their memory (512mb) works with sleep mode (they don't make this claim with 1 GB). Anyone have any experience?
Here's the links:
MemoryX 512 MB
MemoryX 1 GB

Sure thing, as soon as
A) my Powerbook comes in the mail
B) the RAM finds its way to my office
and C) I figure out how to install the RAM (never done this before)

C) Apple makes everything easy Let me put it this way, its taking out 4 screws. Then putting the ram in the slots, which is as easy as putting a cd in a cd player (except for you need to kind of angle the ram when putting them in the slots). It should take no longer than 5 minutes.

Easy - PowerBook user guide that comes with your unit. Chapter 4, page 57 :: you just need a Phillips size 00 screwdriver.

Hi, I'm really a n00b when it comes to RAM - I have a PowerBook G4 15" 1.33GHz. Do you know what type of RAM I need to purchase for this? I looked in System Profiler:
SODIMM0/J25LOWER:
Size: 256 MB
Type: DDR SDRAM
Speed: PC2700U-25330
Will this ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...11#DetailSpecs) RAM be compatible?
Thanks
EDIT: Also how do I find out if I have a Rev A/B/C AluBook?

If and when you call to order - Ask them if the ram works in your specific PowerBook.. Also is this guaranteed. Get their name and note that with the time you called.

I don't agree with the statement above. If you look at user comments on the product page, you will see that many PowerBook and iBook users had success with memory. Nobody will guarantee you anything with generic products, and good luck calling a web-only retailer and actually getting someone who knows what they are talking about.
There are always options:
1. Buy from Apple. Pro: guaranteed to work. Con: expensive.
2. Buy from Crucial. Pro: somewhat guaranteed to work. Con: still expensive.
3. Buy generic. Pro: cheap. Con: requires you to do the research and associated leg work.
It's safe to assume that this RAM will have higher power consumption than whatever's offered by Apple. It may get a little hotter and may result in reduced battery life, but provided the product is not defective right off the bat, you should expect many years of trouble-free performance.

Some dissention - good for you Irus. Another opinion always helps.
- But the call never hurts and questions asked. What ever, get the time and name of party if an order is placed.

Thanks guys. I was reading some of the reviews on that KINGMAX RAM, and it does work on my PowerBook. I just ordered yesterday about an hour before the offer cancelled.
Thanks again for your help.

Yeah, i never called to order (I'm nooooooooot a phone person when I can just click "Submit!") but I did see all the positive reviews on that RAM with some people with PB's.
I'll get mine Friday! They ship faster than I'd thought!

Yesterday I ordered Kingston KVR333X64SC25/1G, but today I saw the same store selling KTA-PBG4333/1G for just a little more. It was to late to change the order since it has already shipped. Any experience with the KVR333X64SC25/1G (Kingston's value ram) on PBs? Thanks in advance.
(The KVR333X64SC25/1G is Kingston's system generic value offer, and KTA-PBG4333/1 is their system specific offer that is tested to be compatible with PowerBooks.)
Yeah. And btw, do you notice any difference in WOW going from 768 -> 1280MB?

I purchased this Samsung chip, and the difference from 512MB to 1.5GB is pretty startling in 10.4.1. It's a bit more expensive than some of the other options discussed in this thread, but I wanted to try and stay with the sticks Apple uses. At 179.99 (shipping was fast and pretty cheap) I think it was a bargain. The link is the same as one posted earlier in the thread.

"It's safe to assume that this RAM will have higher power consumption than whatever's offered by Apple. It may get a little hotter and may result in reduced battery life..."
A number of months ago I posted pretty exhaustive tests of my PB with generic and non-generic RAM, comparing run times, battery life and tempertures, and I couldn't detect any measurable differences. So you can assume what you wish, but that doesn't make it so.

I'm looking for the OEM Samsung 1GB stick for my 15" PowerBook. But, I'm not sure if there are different models of Samsung out there. How do you tell which Samsung model is the right one? Does anyone have a recommended place to buy the original Samsung memory?
I notice that 18004memory.com's memory configurator doesn't return Samsung's memory as one of the available option. It's generic brand is $200 while the Samsung brand is $159. Anything wrong with that?
Thanks for any advice.

I have it down to three possibilites for my 12" 1.5GHz PB...
OWComputing
Samsung original 1GB PC2700 for $175 with free shipping and no tax to California
www.zipzoomfly.com
Kingston Value Ram PC2700 for $110 shipped, plus tax to California
NewEgg.com
Patriot 1GB PC2700 for $108 after rebate plus $4 shipping and tax to California
I think the Samsung is the best... but at $175 it's $50 more than the other two (which both end up about $120 after tax and shipping). The Patriot has a good reputation and seems to be a good choice... but then I have to wait for a $25 mail-in-rebate; making the total about $145 out of pocket. The Kingston from ZipZoomFly seems to be the best deal at $110 plus tax... and people have reported success with it. It's the least expensive out of pocket, so I'm heavily leaning towards it.
What do you think? Should I add any choices to the list of contenders?

Well, what I bought last week was the Newegg Kingmax RAM. Here's a link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820155111
It got shipped to me incredibly fast, and it works like a charm!
Right now it's about $109 after shipping.

All these deals are great and all, but being in Canada you can get hit pretty hard at the border $$. I've found some RAM at a local shop, but I've never heard of this type before. It's a Kingston 1GB PC2-4200 DDR2 SODIMM for Notebooks
PB's take PC2700 DDR, right? I recall from Desktops that you could usually use a higher speed RAM in an older machine and it would just slow down. If this is a PC4200, would it not work? I'll try calling and asking during reg bus hours, but they're a PC shop, so they may have no idea.
The product is at http://www.memoryexpress.com/Product...ProductID=5722
Thanks

That memory you've linked is DDR2 and if my memory serves me correctly, it is NOT backward compatible with DDR systems.
The issue isn't whether it is compatible, though. The real question is, why are you trying to purchase a SODIMM which has a significant (over 50% in some cases) price premium to regular PC2700 memory when the latter is readily available from merchants who will ship to Canada, and SHOULD be available from merchants in Canada?

I already bought the patriot for $108 after rebate on Monday ... but this seems too good to pass up if indeed it really works on the newer PBs...

I purchased the KingMax ram when my Pbook got here about 4 months ago and there has been no sign of problems so far. Just thought i would update so people see that, at least in my case, KingMax is a good product.... so far! Hope this helps.

All,
Finally decided to go with the Kingmax after all the posts -
NewEgg has it for $99.99 (before shipping) as an end-month promo
http://www2.newegg.com/Product/Produ...155-111&depa=0
Looked like the perfect time to me.
I'm anxiously awaiting this new addition to the PowerBook!
Cheers!

Well, it's time to order another 1GIG for my 1.5Mhz PB.
I just wanted to make sure which brand I should be going with here.
It looks to me like the KingMax from newegg.com is the way to go? This is what I'm looking at, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820155111
Please, correct me if I'm wrong.
Also, does anybody have this RAM up and running? For how long, and has it gone smooth so far?
Thanks guys.
Edit: Also, what are my other options. I'm a little confused between all this talk. What else has worked for you folks. I'm obviously looking for a cheap, but stable, 1GB stick.
Second Edit: How about this? Is there any reason this would not work? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145068

Hi guys. I'm not that good in terms of technology terms. I have a 1.25 15" powerbook and was wondering what 1gb memory its compatible with? I've seen others post links but i'm assuming that they have the most recent versions of the powerbooks. I'm just wondering because I don't want to buy the wrong version to finally bump my trusty pbook to 2GB of RAM. Thanks in advance for the help!

I was advised to go to http://eshop.macsales.com/MyOWC/Upgr...=Show+Upgrades
and I bought:
1GB (1024MB) PC2700 DDR SODIMM 200 Pin Memory Module 128x64 CL 2.5 for PowerBook G4 'Aluminum' 12", 15" & 17" 1.5GHz or 1.67GHz Models, iBook G4 1.2/1.3/1.33/1.42GHz Models *ONLY*-Not for other speed models! New, Lifetime Advance Replacement Warranty. (OWC2700DDRS1GBC) more info...

Anyone knows where the promotion / discount from crucial.com goes? I checked the DDR2 Ram for powerbook a few weeks ago and it has a special discount links where when you clicked on it, the price dropped from 270 something to 250 (for a 2 gig bundle). Now the link is gone. Anyone knows how or where to get promotion code / links for crucial site? Thanks

I just recheck the website and the discount is back. Click on "Get Sale Price" on the price column after you have go thru step 3 or selecting the model of your machine in the Crucial Memory Advisor™ Tool

Give us a direct link please. Many different links have been posted throughout the course of this thread and I can't tell which one you're referring to. I went to the one below and couldn't find any such "Get Sale Price" link. Thanks.
