On Thursday, Apple updated its Digital Camera RAW plug-in for Aperture 3 and iPhoto '11 that adds compatibility with supported and new RAW camera output formats. The latest version, 5.04, adds six new cameras to its support list for users running OS X 10.8.5 or later and recent versions of Aperture (3.4.5 or higher) and iPhoto (v9.4.3 or higher). The update adds support for the Fujifilm X-E2 and X-T1, the Nikon D3300 and Nikon 1 AW1, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GM1 and the Pentax K-3. The update is now available through the Mac App Store's Software Update.

GE-backed startup Quirky offers Aros window AC unit with iOS, Android control

Following in the footsteps of Nest, a New York-based startup called Quirky is now offering a window air conditioning unit, the Quirky Aros, that offers touch-capacitive controls and Wi-Fi compatibility to complement iOS and Android apps allowing remote control. The unit, rated at 8,000 BTU (good for cooling approximately 350 square feet), uses GPS to allow the option of turning itself on or off just before or after the user enters or leaves the home.

In addition, it can be programmed with budget information alongside weather and usage patterns to formulate a "smart" automatic schedule, and features a more elegant design aesthetic than most of its competitors. It is available for pre-order now at a cost of $300 through Amazon, and is expected to ship in early May.
