Okay, I love the new iPhone, but... no 64GB? Man, that stinks.
I was hoping for an in-house turn-by-turn GPS app, too. Wishful thinking.

I'm really happy about the new iPhone. It'll be a great change and leap forward coming from my two year old 3G model. I was certain the black model was for me (I have a white 3G now) but I'm not sure anymore. The official Apple images from the keynote make the white phone look really tempting.

Quite the opposite for me. If it had all been just hype and fantasies, I might well have been persuaded to hold off buying a new iPhone (old one was stolen a week ago) until iPhone 4 was available, making do with Crappy Generic Meantime Phone in the, well, meantime.
Knowing what the iPhone 4 looked like, and that it was nothing to be excited about (being, in fact, quite a big step-back in aesthetics from the 3GS), I knew right away not to bother, and just get a new 3GS straight off the bat.

The only negative about the new iPhone is the name.
Should have been called, "iPhone Will Beat The Crap Out Of Droid".

Well you have fun with your 3GS while the rest of us go upgrade.

Yeah, they added those +/- engravings, and they kept the screws after all (since the prototypes didn't have them, then did, then didn't).

The only thing about the new phone (as opposed to the iOS) that I’d really like to have is the double microphone, for better noise cancellation, and better reception, which—if I understood it correctly—the steel frame receiver thingy is supposed to deliver.
Everything else is useless to me, and packed in a casing I don’t like. So yes, I think I will go have fun with my 3GS while the rest of you upgrade.

Don't feel alone. I not upgrading till July 2011, or the CDMA version arrives.

Well, it’s all GSM here (I think there’s one carrier in Denmark that offers CDMA, and they’re actually Swedish and went bankrupt twice in the past five years …), so CDMA is no big deal for me, quite the opposite.
Unless I manage to get this phone stolen too, though, I don’t plan to upgrade for at least three years. My last phone (apart from the stolen one) lasted me a good five years.

I managed to smash my iphone 3G a few weeks ago which kind of sucked since I was waiting for the new model to come out this summer to trade up. Well, wouldn't you know it, my 30 day return policy expires two days before the new phone comes out. So I guess it's back to AT&T to see if I can at least get $200 back since they just lowered the price to $99 or return it and go without a phone for who knows how long until I can get the new one.

The only dilemma I face is... black? Or white?
The one quibble I do have, is when does Apple plan on upgrading the headphones that come the the iPhone? Those dogs are way overdue for a redesign.

The last time they upgraded them, beyond adding an inline mic/buttons for the iPHone and then the new shuffle, was when the 5G iPod was released. They became less round and gained some flexible rubber grommets vs. the original hard plastic (the light gray parts of the headphones). So they upgrade them every 5 years or so, which means yes, we're do for a redesign.

Just for everyone's reference. This thing is .37 in thick. An iPod touch is .33 in thick. It's understandable now why they made it more "squared off" and less tapered ... the g#dd#am thing is super thin, how else would you even put buttons on the sides.

I was hoping one of the 100 (was it?) new features would've been a fix for notifications. The elegant solutions on both Android and webOS have me envious. Oh well. There's always iOS 5.

Japan is already implementing CDMA that uses GSM style cards. I'd switch to Verizon if I could unlock the phone and use someone else if I don't like them.

The previous redesign was half-assed. I really like the integrated mic/clicker (the best I've seen on any headphones of it's type), but the ear buds themselves have been weak from the very beginning... primarily because they don't sit in the ear properly (especially if you like running or any kind of rigorous physical activity), and also because they tend to break in one area or another rather easily.

Same here. This thing has been phenomenal for nearly 3 years but its finally showing its age (battery is shot .. lasts 5 or 6 hours, part of the plastic at the speaker/mic is breaking away). The jump from the 2g to iPhone 4 will be amazing.

Rather impressed with the new iPhone. I scuppered to buying the iPad in option over the new iPhone due to the fact my contract has another 12 months on my 3G S. But in an interesting turn, o2, the U.K provider has a fair trade policy and is releasing some form of an offer that will be announced in the next few days... I can get £250 for my iPhone 3G S, if it is recycled. All making for an interesting next few days... although, I do doubt that the offer will relate to customers with 12 months left.
HD video sold it to me as well as the ridiculously good looking screen. I could care less for video calling until it is available over 3G/4G/5G... however long we have to wait. Still very cool though.
I had a hinkling Apple wouldn't go for the 64GB version this time round. One. 32GB is quite decent and Two. That would make the iPad almost strange due to its vast size, people would wonder why so little capacity is included and it would also give less reason to be wowed by the iPad.

About the pre-order - is it possible to pre-order on the 15th and pick it up at an Apple Store on the 24th?
I'm leaving town on the 25th so I don't want it shipped to me.
I can't find any details on the pre-order...thanks for any insight.

Should be able to do that. It is rather annoying how Apple is mum about pre-ordering things until the date the pre-ordering begins.

Good comparison. It's hard to imagine a phone a thick as my iPod touch, which brings me to my one big concern about the iPhone 4. It looks kind of uncomfortable to hold. While I didn't aesthetically like the 3G, I thought it was a very comfortable phone to hold, especially while actually having a conversation. This one doesn't look very ergonomic. But who knows, maybe the Bumpers will help with that. I love the white iPhone with a black Bumper.

The bumpers look just about perfect, assuming it doesn't make it too thick/pocket unweildly. I love using my phone 'au naturale', but I would hate to set that phone down flat on a table and feel like I needed to brush off the surface so I don't hear a scratchy sound of glass against a bit of dust/dirt. Looks pretty svelte though, and maybe a bit two-toned? iPhone 4 – bumper cases|The iPhone User Guide

Once the new OS/phone is jailbroken (give it a day or so), you can install MyWi and share your internet connection wirelessly. The ipad can jump on that network just like any wifi network.

Huh, until just now I didn't realize the iPod Touch and iPhone were dimensionally different.

I guess the A4 would be nice enough … but it’s not really something I feel I need or even really long for. Higher resolution would of course be welcome, too, but it’s not like I’ve ever been bothered by the 3GS’ resolution.

Right now Facetime is limited to between those who have the iPhone 4. Imagine just for a moment that the iPad had a front facing cam like the iPhone 4--it would have instantly expanded the number of Facetime connections.
Yes, the iPad will eventually be released with a cam--but given the high sales volume of the iPad, Apple would've had an enormous market advantage for the Facetime standard--and an enormous inducement for increased iPhone 4 sales.

I don't want to get screwed next year when the new iPhone comes out. AT&T might not be bumping up eligibility dates. Who knows.
I'll wait. None of the new features are that enticing to me. I also don't want to fall into the pattern of thinking I need to buy a new $300 phone every year.

No, Apple's been mum on how powerful it is, but it's quite a bit smaller than the iPad's, so I very much doubt it's running at 1GHz as well.
