When I double-click to play a song in my library it frequently happens that all of the info for the song changes to that of another piece of music that is in my library. I discovered this shortly after downloading iTunes 12.2. I double-clicked Both Sides Now by Joni Mitchell and before my eyes its name in the playlist changed to "Violin Sonata No. 9 in A Major, Op. 5, No. 9: II. Giga - Allegro," by Arcangelo Corelli, a piece of music that I have in another playlist. But the song that played was Both Sides Now.

"Get info" showed info for the Corelli work, but with the Joni Mitchell album art.

In the same playlist playing "Try" by Nelly Furtado caused its data to change to "French Suite No. 4 in E-Flat Major, BWV 815: VIII. Air," by J.S. Bach. Again, the right song played.

This happens frequently, though not with every work, in every playlist that I have tried. I can restore the data by replacing iTunes Library.itl with an older version, but I can't play my music without it recurring.

iTunes 12.2.1.16 did not fix this problem

Ideas!?

Of course it is, iTunes f$&@ed the library AND the underlying data files (music, videos).

Symptoms might look different, but the root cause is still the same.

Of course it is...

Nice attitude...

Nice answer, too, when the problem in which certain songs have their metadata corrupted does not in any way resemble the problem of having videos disappear from a HD.

The commonality is iTunes. The metadata change happens with movies as well.

Videos disappearing from a hard drive are getting moved -- not deleted (generally). This isn't technically metadata, but a path change, all induced by iTunes.

Generally, the common cause is the new iTunes. Specifically, it points to more than one problem in the application.

That's the way I see it. Someone has a certain problem with the new iTunes. Another cohort has a different problem. iTunes has multiple bugs is the reasonable conclusion. It may not be true; there could be a single underlying problem that manifests itself in different ways. Apple is aware of these problems; let's hope they are working on them.

Yes, but the point is: the LATEST iTunes updates screwed things up.

The reason why I linked to the other thread is because I didn't want to type my similar bad experience all over again.

Are you using iTunes Match or Apple Music?

Only iTunes Match. I understand now that this was one of the culprits.
Alas, too late. My video library is completely screwed.

Because you don't own shit, on here.

And because I asked over in the other thread (whosever you might consider that to be) as well.

I couldn't care less whether you feel slighted by another member weighing in with his experiences; I'm trying to figure out whether I'm at risk, not using either iTunes Match nor Apple Music.

Spheric Harlot, the safest situation is internal storage, WITHOUT Apple Music or iTunes Match, on 12.1.x.

Alter these variables at your peril.

I signed up for Apple Music and didn't have any problems with iTunes so far (I am using the El Capitan beta though)!
The Music app on iOS9 beta is gigantic crap though unfortunately!
