According to this KDE blog the KHTML devs are not very happy with Apple, because their much praised (in the media) collaboration with open source is very much a one way affair.

Dave Hyatt responds here.

It doesn't surprise me that Apple aren't playing 'fair' with these guys, but what should they do about it?

Basically, Apple's development needs don't quite match with those of the KHTML team, and the KHTML folks see the solution to this as making Apple do things exactly the way KHTML does them. A valid complaint, but ultimately not with much meaning.

Evidently, because I can still get déjâ vu in Safari.

Apple wants to abandon KHTML for Safari
Apple has proposed resolving compatibility conflicts in Safari by scrapping the KHTML rendering engine in favor of its own WebCore. In an e-mail cited by CNET News.com, leading Apple browser engineer Maciej Stachowiak suggested that architects of the KHTML rendering engine consider abandoning the KHTML code base, which Apple has used for the last two years. The suggestion, which KHTML developers said they were unlikely to accept, comes as Apple tries to quell rising dissatisfaction among the original architects of KHTML. These developers are calling the relationship between their group and Apple a "bitter failure," accusing the computer maker of taking more than it gives back to the open-source group.

MacNN and their headlines/summaries

Apple don't want to abandon KHTML - they suggest that Konqueror could use the WebCore branch.

To be more explicit, Apple wants the KHTML developers to scrap their own project and adopt Apple's WebCore, which is basically a different version of the same code.

It's an open source project: Code forks happen.

Shrug. Nothing at all unusual here.
