Running 10.3.6. Entourage 11.1.0.

For last few months have had occassions where Entourage becomes "stuck" with excessive disk activity/access that I can hear. Once this hapens Entourage doesn't function. Only way to halt it is a Force Quit of Entourage from the Apple Menu. Have tried to use Cocktail and DiskWarrior to fix. No success. Condition hapens about once a day.

Is this a known issue? Anybody else experiencing this? Any suggestions?

Have you tried rebuilding the database? That tends to fix most problems.
