I've made some beta versions of the boinc 4.27 client to try out.
They can be found here Boinc Beta Clients

The benchmark code has changed, so the benchmarks might be slower than your previous client(s), however the clients themselves are not any slower.

Aside from the usual gcc3.3 compiles that should run on 10.3.x and up, there are some gcc3.5 compiled clients that will work on 10.4 preview and up.
The "vector" clients are auto-vectorized and the "profiled" client is profiled with gcc's profiling features and then recompiled using actual run time data to generate better optimizations.

All clients are beta quality, test at your own risk.

Feel free to post benchmarks, comments, and issues here.

G5 2x2.0 - 10.4 Server - Non vectorized g5 version

Whetstone is about the same as with 4.19, but Dhrystone is up significantly....

The autovectorized version was giving a bad link when I tried to download. Any chance it might be hanging around somewhere??

Me bad. I didn't test the links after posting. Turns out the vector builds ended in .sit rather than .sitx

Page is fixed now.

Thanks for finding that....

Not a huge amount of difference though...

Only the Dhrystone dropped by about 1000...

Mikkyo:
If you get a chance, would you please try to compile a version of BOINC that will run reliably under OS 10.2.8? I have an old iMac sitting here running classic, and it'll be out of work soon. I've tried to upgrade it to 10.3.x, but can't get it to boot off the CD-ROM. CD tests good, and the iMac will boot off the 10.2.x CD-ROM, just not the 10.3 one.

Thanks!

The 10.2.8 client didn't work correctly for most, so it was dropped.
Also the gain is speed going up to 10.3 is very significant.
If your iMac has firewire and target disk mode, you can plug it into another machine that can boot your 10.3 install cd and install on the internal disk of the iMac.
If not, you could pull the drive out stick it in another machine and install, or try going to 10.2 first and then 10.3 (maybe you'll have better luck with booting off the 10.3 cd after 10.2 is installed).
Maybe the drive is just dirty in the iMac. Have you tried a cleaning cd, or blow/vaccuuming it?

mikkyo,

The latest "recommended" versions are 4.43 for both the GUI and the CLI. Any chance you might find some time to work your magic on these? No hurry though. I'm running the 4.43 GUI now with the 4.27 Tiger optimized beta CLI client replacing the stock 4.43 and it really makes my iMac G5 1.6ghz sing.

Measured floating point speed 1440.66 million ops/sec
Measured integer speed 5555.93 million ops/sec

A quick note for anyone using the Advanced GUI with BOINC manager. If you get a message upon restart that BOINC manager is disconnected, don't freek out. All you will need to do is restart your computer. I didn't test with BOINC menubar, so maybe someone can let us know if that is a problem. There is no problem with the CLI.
