Will Maya be able to run on a Powerbook G4 ? Even with the current video chip ?

I took this from the Aliaswavefront web site :

David Dozoretz, Previsualization Supervisor, JAK Films, an early Maya/Mac beta test site: "Maya for Mac OS X will revolutionize the way we create our visual effects sequences. By running Maya on a new Titanium Powerbook G4 we will be able to do pre-visualization effects on set. Both Alias|Wavefront and Apple have long been the standard in their respective fields. To have the two join forces is the most exciting thing to happen to 3D in years."

So should I buy a Powerbook G4 now or wait until this summer ?

cheers

Doesn't that answer your question? It seems they are confident that Maya will run well on the Tibook. If your waiting for a new graphics chip set you'll probably be waiting longer than this summer. It's a kickass computer as is, if you need to do work now, I would go for it.

I am sure it will "run" but at what cost to video performance?

Maya has desktop written all over it.

Well, modern PowerBooks are just portable versions of the desktop machines.

So would a Powerbook G4/500Mhz be powerful enough to handle Maya ? I would add more RAM and also buy an external Firewire Hard drive.

What else would I need ?

I can't see why not. Maya runs well on the G4 500 desktop and as tooki stated the modern powerbooks are just portable versions of desktops. As for ram add as much as you can afford.
