The ROKR only supports audio books downloaded directly from the iTunes Music store, not those played by iTunes, from Audible.com

mine is going back, kinda dissapointed in Apple about this

and get this, I downloaded a free audio book from the iTunes music store just to test it, and low and behold it is an audio book from Audible.com, but in iTunes format, the lady in the beginning of the book states, "this audio book is presented to you by Audible.com"

how jacked is that?

let me clarify for those that are confused, when you download a book from iTunes, it comes in an AAC format (when you look at the kind column in iTunes) and books downloaded from Audible.com are seen in iTunes as "Audible file" so you say, why not just download audiobooks from iTunes and bypass audible all together?

well, the typical audio book is $30-$40, thats a bit expensive, yet Audible.com offers a subscritpion service for $20 that gets you 2 audiobooks a month, they have worked with iTunes for years

I bought this phone with the intention to get rid of a phone and iPod....yet I must still carry a phone and an iPod =/

(I have long commute, audiobooks keep me from insanity)

don't expect much from a phone especially a motorola one.

Phones are good for making calls and sending sms and ipods are good for music. I'm afraid there isn't and will not be a gadget that can do everything admirably well.

Not yet anyway. Maybe another phone will improve on this one.

I don't really understand the point of having a music-playing phone. So you listen and drain the batteries, receive an important call, and POOF, battery dead?

whats so hard to understand, I use my iPod for audio books and music on my commute, I carry a phone, this was the perfect mating, yet the partnership that audible and iTunes has had for years did not carry over

Reread my post.

iPods are for music.
Phones are for calling people.
Both rely on batteries.

If my iPod loses its juice, I can still call people with my phone.
If my ROKR loses its juice because of music or audiobook listening, I'm out of luck.

How simple? My phone, which is supposed to get more than 300 hours of standby and over 5 hours of talk time must be charged almost nightly (less than one year of battery-use later), and I don't listen to music on it. And I rarely talk on it for more than a half hour in a day.

I wouldn't lose all hope. Audible would likely want to have its product working on the new phones, and if they pressured Apple, they could probably have their way.
