I've just done a clean install of OS9, and IE5.
When i startup IE5, it doesnt get past the splash scren. I've allocated 20MB to it.
I had this problem some time ago, but cant remember how I got around it.

Any help would be appreciated.

find the 'Explorer' folder in the Preferences folder, delete all files in it EXCEPT for the Favorites.html file

find the 'MS Internet Cache' folder, also in the Preferences folder and delete it

now... restart, rebuild desktop, and use IE

didn't work? use the First Run app in IE5 folder

Thanks, but still doesnt work.
I've also tried deleting all the microsoft extensions and replacing them, and deleting all the preferences.
I had this problem once before when IE5 first came out, but i have a clean system now? Strange Isnt it!

ok, maybe just maybe your Internet prefs file has gone south on you... try deleting it and resetting the Internet control panel

btw, have you run your HD utils lately? rebuilt the desktop and all that?

This problem just started happening to me. I've tried re-installing IE, getting rid of prefs and extensions, and anything else I could think of. Still no luck.

Please let me know if you get IE to work and how you did it.

What seems to be different about my crashing is that I get to a browser window and then the whole machine crashes. Do you get this far or do you crash at the splash screen?

Always crashes on the splash screen.
When IE5 first came out there were heaps of people having this problem.
Are there any of you people still out there.
It might have been an update required in OS9 or something to fix the prob.??

did you do this type and only this type of clean install of IE: http://forums.macnn.com/cgi-bin/Foru...ML/000303.html

if you did not do that EXACTLY, then do so... BUT before you do that, delete any IE aliases in the IE folder... hell, delete any IE aliases that are on your Mac, if any... then see if IE is ok, if not, do the clean install exactly as posted at the above URL
