I have a 300 visa gift card that I plan on spending this weekend. I have no idea what to buy.

Things I already own:

iPhone 4
Previous gen iPod nano
iPad
Old apple tv
40" samsung
32" insignia
Sirius Radio
Skull candy pipe
Xbox 360

Any suggestions on what to buy? I haven't purchased anything for myself since my ipad mid last year.

I drink only beer, and have a fridge full and the hookers around here are not attractive and don't take Visa.

You don't list a camera, unless you're happy with iphone for that.
New games for your xbox.
A plane ticket to someplace different (stalk jetblue cheeps twitter feed). Stay the weekend and find some thing new to do there. Come back with stories and pictures.

I was thinking possibly a blu-ray player or should I just get a ps3 even though I don't game much. I really want a new macbook but don't want to buy one now with new ones on the horizon. I do have extra cash I can throw in for the macbook, but don't want a 13" with a core2duo and don't want a larger laptop.

If you don't know don't spend it. Save it for when it will actually go to good use.

Just because you can buy something, doesn't mean you should.

If you want to get rid of the card, use it to pay some bills and use the rest to add to and/or open a savings account.

This is the best answer so far, which doesn't make me happy lol

Don't be unhappy. Count your blessings.

$300 worth of stuff you don't need is not going to make you happy.

Do you have a girlfriend? Buy her something if it's burning a hole in your pocket.

The value of this post is well worthy of a diamond studded shell.

Gold and silver is one of the best investments one can make. It'll always hold value, and usually sells for more than what you pay, if you sell at the correct time.

If I buy something it's usually something I've been pining for and saving up to buy. I rarely buy something just because I've got the money.

If I were you and I just had to burn some of that cash I'd get myself an expensive steak dinner.

The usual jibes about spending it wisely aside, beware that those Visa gift cards often have monthly maintenance fees that kick in past a certain point. Find out when that point is, and get rid of it before any such fees kick in.

I've always felt it was particularly underhanded of the credit card companies to impose fees on what should simply be a straight up money exchange, but then, they've made being tricky underhanded bastards into a gazillion dollar industry.

Yeah, I agree with this too. Any time I get one of those cards (companies love issuing rebates on them) I spend them as soon as possible. Even if it means using it to pay for gasoline and groceries. There's no "saving" that money.

I save from my paycheck, from which my 401(k) contribution gets taken out before I even see the money and the rest goes to my bank accounts, where I can do what I want with it, which usually means setting more aside in other savings vehicles and spending on bills/necessities and occasional "splurging." (within reason).

They also expire. Some states allow you to buy something, then request the remainder of the balance as cash. You could buy a stick of gum, then get $299 back.

Forget the steak dinner. He should get himself some fresh seafood and biscuits at Red Lobster.

That part of your comment isn't exactly true. If you buy gold when its price is inflated, you can see a definite loss in value. Gold doesn't just go up and never down. While it will always hold some amount of value, there's no outright guarantee that it will be as high or higher than the price you bought it for. (In 2007 when the international markets were spooked by currency issues, everyone retreated to the dollar and gold plummeted. That was a temporary condition and major buying opportunity, but it taught me that if the economic sky is falling gold is not a safe haven.)

I was really hoping he would go ape sh*t over the "fresh seafood" part in my first post. I wanted to hear that story about the restaurant that had it's own dock and how he would watch the fishermen unload his next meal.

I love that story.
