I've been keeping up with the Gamecast between Croatia/Germany while at work, and realized there's been no discussion about Euro 2008. I know we have a few fans here, so who are you guys predicting (or hoping) to come through this thing on top?
I have a tugging in my heart for Spain, who I've been pulling for ever since England humiliated themselves by failing to qualify. Being a Fabregas fan helps too.

I went for Spain as well. They are like England, full of good players but never pull it off in the major games.
The Switzerland Vs Turkey was a mental game last night, not sure why it didn't get stopped with all that rain.

Note of interest: Croatia has never lost a game in which Darijo Srna has scored.
Croatia up 1-0 at half time.

Germany just looked sloppy.
...and a sending off for Schweinsteiger. He had to feel foolish for that one pretty quickly.

I second that even though I have a quite hard time to be for Holland!
Wait, I think this group would get even more interesting if France would win against Holland!
I'm really looking forward to the game Italy vs. France when they have to play for the second place in that group!

I'd just love for anyone but Italy to advance from that group. I don't want them slowing down the tournament.

Buffon is just ridiculous. Ridiculous.
Unless something happens within the next few seconds, it looks like 1-1 for Italy/Romania.

4-1.
That was the opposite score I was expecting. Go Dutch.

Holland looks amazing. I'd love to see them carry this momentum to the final.
This sets up a dramatic game for Italy and France though. A little retribution for the World Cup loss coming up for France?

Netherlands was fantastic. France was good, but more individually. The combinations of the Netherlands players were a joy to watch. Nistelrooj is a magician!

Need a France - Italy draw and a Holland - Romania draw.
Mwahahahahahahahahahahaha.
Not even qualified for the 'allegedly' two best teams in Europe. I'd LOVE it !!!!

Italy is nowhere near the best team in Europe, the most hyped perhaps. It was wonderful when Holland humiliated them and even Romania almost beat them. Lucky they got a draw out of that game.
I'm rooting for Holland in general and Spain in particular, of course. I have great respect for Van Basten and his team is playing amazing football! Just wonderful offensive football.
Spain hasn't a great history of doing anything important in competitions such as this. Despite a full team of talent. So it's good to have a backup team to root for

Blood ties prevent me from rooting for anyone but Portugal. But I'm not as interested in them this year as when they were the host country last time. I'd rather not go through that disappointment again.

Funny you should mention that. So many people at my place of work streamed live video of the matches, that our ISP phoned up the IT department to politely tell them that too much bandwidth was being sucked up, and could be grounds for service termination. I could care less what you do with your time, Jawbone, but I can't believe how otherwise productive employees at my company can be seduced by a soccer game to coerce the canine in droves.

Nahhhhh, it's a gamecast, not the live video feed. I just keep it running to see who's been carded or scored. I'll check back with it every 10 minutes, or whenever I swing back by my office if I'm working in another room. It's boring, and not as good as watching it live, but it's better than nothing.
Today was an off day, so I was able to watch most of the two matches. Not a bad two to watch, either.

Gotta agree with Faust, the whole Dutch team was on fire the other night. Clever passing, holding the ball. Really a joy to watch.
Lets hope that they go all the way.

Holy ****. The second half of Czech Republic - Turkey was some of the best soccer I have ever seen.
And I can't remember the last time I saw a goal keeper get a red card, especially in stoppage time.

Oh yes. Turkey's first game was a thriller, too. Remember the massive rain? But this game was killer par excellence.
So, today I'll watch Germany vs. Austria. I hope it won't be yawn inducing (which it inevitably will if Germany picks up from where they left off).

By the way, could someone tell me whose idea it was to have two games on at the same time?
I used to watch one in the afternoon and one in the evening, now I’m forced to choose between two evening fixtures.
Couldn’t they have gone on showing them at different times so at least people can watch every game, who the hell is responsible for this madness?

Its done to avoid 'conflicts of interest'. Think that was the sentence used. How it does is anyone's guess.

The keeper pushed over Koller. Koller is about 2m tall weighing 120kg.

It's done so the team playing later can't play in a way that might alter the result of who finishes where in the table, which might mean they get an easier team in the next round.

France played a very uninspireing game, Italy played a hair less awful and won the game. Both teams should be disqualified for sucking.
Unfortunately one of them made it. Neither should have, but Holland was just better than Romania even without the key people.
Holland has the best team by far in this competition that I have seen. I am pleased with that and pleased with Spain so far. Although Spain has been playing only above than average football, that's way better than they usually do in these kinds of competitions.
Spain will beat Italy in the quarter finals.

Because they started a discussion with the fourth referee about what they can do in their coaching zone and what not!

Well I didn't get the result that I wanted, Italy still dangerous - for their unsportsmanship. They should never have got to the final of the World Cup either. The Dutch may regret it.

Now they even barred both coaches from being with the team for one game. Smart, especially in regard to the Austrian coach.

Good prediction... Portugal gave a fight but ultimately lost because of less than stellar defence. On a good day Portugal would have beaten Germany, but this was just an average day. Portugal played a lively and entertaining football and ass soon as they rid themselves of Scolari they'll be right back on track.

I agree. If they continue to play this way, I'll have to support my country for a change.
If they played against the Netherlands, I don't know who I'd support. Let's hope it won't come to that.

It's gonna be fun to watch them play Turkey or Croatia. This is gonna be big in Germany.

I'm just glad to see that attacking football is the order of the day for Euro 2008. There have been a lot of high-scoring, excited matches.
I'm still pulling for Spain, but Holland is a blast to watch.
