Last Friday the home button became completely unresponsive on my iPhone 3G. I suppose a contact came loose or am I SOL?

How is this supposed to work if the home button is BROKEN ?

I think what you're trying to say is that the hoke button might NOT be broken, but rather, that the app is frozen.

The OP would find out sooner or later once the battery runs out and hee needs to reboot upon recharging.

Also, he's great at providing DVD to iPod conversion software that doesn't work but costs $30.

He'll be right back to let you know.

Currently, in order for me to switch apps, I have to turn the phone off and back on. Frustrating. I have tried a restore, but to no avail. It seems that it is a physical problem.

Try opening it up and see if it's really just a contact somewhere.
iFixit has the guide.

My wife just had the same issue, albeit to a lesser extent. Had the Apple Store replace it (which also requires screen replacement). The Applecare just paid for itself.

Switch off your 3G and power it on. Hopefully, your problem will be solved.
