Google's HTC-produced Nexus tablet has reappeared in another report, alleging its existence. Sources of
Wall Street Journal claim that HTC has been selected over other manufacturers to create the device, as suggested by
previous rumors, with the report also stating that the tablet will have a nine-inch display, matching earlier leaked legal filings from
Nvidia directly naming a device called the Nexus 9.
Neither company has admitted to the existence of the Nexus 9, though it is noted that Google does use a variety of manufacturers to create its Nexus devices, such as Asus, LG, and Samsung for the
Nexus 7,
Nexus 5, and the
Galaxy Nexus respectively. A source familiar with Google's decisions suggests the company switches between manufacturers for devices in order to avoid any single device producer from gaining a monopoly, and that it had been examining HTC as a Nexus tablet partner since last year.

As for HTC, the company has been notably absent from the tablet market for some time, and has been the subject of frequent rumors about a new arrival. It has also been linked to an unproduced low-cost version of the Amazon
Fire Phone, though that apparently did not come to fruition due to a
dispute with AT&T over exclusivity. The company continues to flounder in
quarterly reports, despite the critical acclaim of handsets such as the One M8, so working with another company to create tablets could help it regain some financial stability.
