Any chances it'll arrive at the MacWorld conference next month? I've heard about the 4MB model supposedly coming for Walmart, and I'm wondering if Apple might upgrade the models it sells itself to further differentiate their iPhones from Walmart's model??

I guess you mean 4 GB ?!?!
Do you have any links to that 4GB rumor ? I have never heard of that.
Besides that, yes, it is possible that the 32MB version gets announced next month. But it also might be something that gets announced at any point in time, not at a big event.

Yeah, there are a lot of rumors about the 4GB iPhone. But all of them agree that this model would be pushed exclusively in certain stores. In the US for example at Walmart.
I think we might see the 32 GB iPhone fairly soon. Not necessarily at MWSF, but I'd definitely expect it tor arrive by spring. Flash prices have fallen and Apple could probably use a little sales booster around midtime between to releases.
Personally I always wanted a 32GB iPhone. I eventually went for the 16GB 3G and I'm getting by. I don't have all the stuff I want on it though. And I have only about 200 MB of free space. Oh well, my next iPhone will have 32GB.

I'm really hoping the 32GB model will be announced before 1/9, as that's the date my darned Verizon contract finally expires...

The iPhone 32GB will not be announced until you couldn't wait any longer and finally pulled the trigger on the 16GB model.
Please don't wait too long, and don't try to change the inevitable

Depends.
If you want to have a couple of movies with you for a roadtrip or so, it'll leave little space for a decent music collection.

I have the 16GB 3G model and I had to find out that it was a mistake to buy this model - I have no use for 16GB storage when I can't use it as a video player or as an iPod because this drains the battery simply too fast!!!

I haven't noticed iPod functionality causing excessive battery drain on my 3G. In my experience it's 3G traffic that uses up most power.

I have a 16 Gigger. It's not quite enough. Mind you I tend to encode my AAC at 192 Kbps, and my movies take up about 2 GB or so each.
32 GB would be perfect for me though.

The planes I've been on recently have USB ports for charging devices. Some even have standard power outlets, and this is all in economy class. Also, the trains I take have standard power outlets, again in just economy class. Thus, for all my travels now, I carry with me a retractable iPod USB cable and the Apple USB charger.

In trains I usually prefer my Notebook for watching movies - size matters! ;-)
But you're right, when power is available I'll sure use the iPhone with all its features!

Don't forget that solar chargers are also an option. They may not be fast, but it is free power anywhere you go.

No, unfortunately the monthly payments are a little too much for me.
