If it stops while verifying the DVD, then your Install DVD is ****ed, and attempting to install it anyway WILL result in a broken system.

If it stops while verifying "something" else: have you considered that it might be useful to know more or less precisely *what* it seems to have trouble verifying and then just FIXING that?

Generally, when a Mac tells you something, there's a reason for it - as in, it's something you should know.

Check, and get back to us.

it does not tell me what is wrong it just says restart. It restarts fine and the os is still fine. And 10.3 reinstalled fine. It cant be the disc, I made a copy and that has the same problem.

I read somethere it wont install onto some sort of 10.3 installations if past 10.3.0, so I reinstalled 10.3.0 and still no dice....

After I click all of the windows and check boxes to archive and install or upgarde it willnot get past the first verifiying hardware somethinglike tha....

I tried skipping check sum and just leaving check sum to do it;'s thing... no dice.. or is it check disc... er the one with the skip button...

I know it can be installed via command line,,,, I saw it before just cant find it in google yet..

If there's a problem on the disc, a copy of the disc would also have a problem.

Check the error log from the Installer to see what the problem is.

That would be my guess from his reaction.

But even a pirate should be able to read an error message and pass it on if he's gonna look for help.

Unless he's keeping it intentionally vague cuz he thinks he might be found out if he tells us exactly what the error message is...

I'm afraid nothing but a legal copy, or downloading from a clean source, will help this problem.

But have fun trying via the Terminal.

^I don't get it - if the disc won't install OS X 10.4 from the DVD what makes you think it can do so from the Terminal ? Things does not just magically work if there is an error on the DVD. Try cleaning the DVD with dishwasher and cross your fingers *lol* NOT!

Okay, cool.

3 points:

1.) What Fonzie said.

2.) This ain't a CD, it's a DVD. Six times the data on the same area. Six times more susceptible to data loss when "a little scruffy".

3.) What's the ****ing error message, and at which point does it occur?

We have three options here:

1) The DVD is hosed and you need to fix it or replace it.

2) Something in your computer is hosed and you need to fix it or replace it.

3) Everything's fine and your system now has a working 10.4 installation.

Choose whichever you prefer.

I had a similar problem with a blue & white G3. 10.3 installed just fine, but wouldn't complete the 10.4 install. Turned out to be a stick of RAM that 10.4 just didn't like. Took it out, and all was fine.

Try the local Apple Store and see if you can get a replacement.

Back when I broke one of my Panther disks (about 9 months after I bought it), the local Apple store traded me a new set for my broken CD.

At which point does it stop installing?

"Verifying something or other" is not a useful answer.

Like I said, it sounds like something or other is broken. Plenty useful.
