just need to know how to format and how much space i would have on it after i only would install os9 after i format it. need spacce

I assume you're formatting your internal drive. So, start your computer with a bootable CD that came with your computer. Then open Drive Setup, click your disk, choose Function and then Initialize. The default options should work for you.
I have no idea how much space you'll have on your drive since I don't know how big your disk is.

my bad, its a 20gb hd and do i have to hold down the f3 key or whatever it is?

Hold the c key until you see the smiley Mac.

A rough estimate is that you'll lose 5% of your drive to formatting and the whole binary v decimal thingy. So your 20 GB drive will likely end up closer to 19 GB or so.
