Every time I get online lately, after a little while, remote access boots me offline. I am scrolling or changing sites. Not just sitting idle. In the control panels, remote access options, the disconnect after... button is not checked. I have just bought a new 56K modem and am running 8.5.1.

What's up with this?

Sounds like either your ISP has noisy lines and/or they do not support V.90/flex or whatever protocols your modem is using. Either one will cause you to get disconnected abruptly. Also, check the modem scripts folder to see if you are using the correct script for your NEW modem, if not, change it to the right one, and restart to see if this helps. LOL

It may be the settings on your new modem. Try tweaking the settings or experimenting with different modem scripts as suggested already. If you have TechTool Pro, use it to check your modem and line quality. It's likely an issue with the line quality or your ISP. I also occassionally experience the problem. However, I'm making the ultimate fix--DSL!
