So what's the next closest shipping date people have received?

MacConnection told me mine could be shipping as early as the 14th of this month, as they will be receiving two shipments around that time (14th and 17th) :: crossing fingers ::

Anyone else?

Yesterday something good happened. I had my date moved to 09/03 on 07/29 but I got an e-mail from Apple saying they are preparing our G5 for shipping. The e-mail said it would ship within 24 to 48 hours so it will either ship today or tomorrow. That made me happy. We will try our first Apple experience this weekend or at the latest next week. If you are wondering, we bought a Power Mac G5 2.5 GHz with 1GB of RAM, 250GB HD and no other customizations (we do not need extra high performance video cards). I will let you all know when it finally ships. Regards.

I hate to rain on your parade, but I called MacConnections this morning and their August 14 and 17 G5 2.5 arrival date from last week are no longer showing from Apple according to the Customer Service representative to whom I talked. in fact, no date is showing. The delays are starting to get funny in a sick sort of way.

Good lord.

You're right. I had just called THIS WEEK and they gave me those last dates and now they're saying "last week of August".

What crap. I don't know how I would have been better off.

Would it have been better if I had ordered from Apple directly (when I ordered on 6/22)?

Am I cornholed since I wanted free shipping and ordered from a reseller?

I am completely losing my patience.

Konakazi, I feel your pain because I've been there before (twice) and now I'm waiting just like you on my 3rd Power Mac since 1999. On the other hand I do want to say that I tried to warn any of you that would listen that this was going to happen!! So now I'm unloading a big, steaming pile of "I told you so" so that some of you will calm down and realize that this is simply the way Apple does business. It hasn't changed since before 1999 and it likely is NOT about to change. Anyway, here's what I posted in this very thread last month, which I pull up again so that maybe some people will pay attention this time. (By the way, you are not likely better off going directly through Apple than you are using CDW or some 3rd party in my opinion.)

July 5th (I think):

" I don't mean to bring your hopes down <about how there will be delays no matter the stated shipping dates>, but if you totally think it's going to ship 7/30 and it doesn't then you will be really, really bummed. This way you're only slightly bummed if your date gets changed. I actually ordered a dual 2.0 last year and cancelled my order because I believed the original ship date, and then they changed it on me twice pushing it back a month each time."

July 15:

"After following the whole ordeal last year and after reading details from the financial report, net articles, and users in forums, I'm thinking that it will be lucky if a lot of people get their dual 2.5s by mid-August. <Instead,> I think this will likely pan out the way it did last year -- the first 3 weeks in September are going to be when things loosen up and by the beginning of October people should be able to get them fairly freely. "The more things change, the more they stay the same" as the saying goes -- I remember ordering my B&W 400 MHz G3 the day after the announcement in January of 1999 and it taking 2 months or more to get it. Anything slightly radical just adds weeks and weeks historically to Apple's ship dates. As soon as I saw the announcement of "liquid cooled 2.5 GHz G5s" I thought, buckle your safety belt; this is going to be a long ride."

Anyway, I repost those quotes because while I love Apple's products and am a big fan, there are some things that Apple just doesn't do right. One is shipping estimates and dates. The sooner you accept that you cannot believe Apple when they tell you a date, the better off you are if you want to live in reality. It's the ugly truth and I'm sorry for it. An Apple veteran shared that with me one time and he's been totally right for half a decade now.

I just configured a Dell 3.06 ghz Hyper Threading pc with an x800 XT for $1642 (1 GB, DVD RW drive and CD RW drive)....it was actually $1042, but I will purchase the x800 xt seperately

I also configured a powerbook 12" with an ipod for $1850

Best of both worlds!

How true you are qwerty2! I've been watching shipping delays since the Performa days! I have come to expect Apple to delay shipping on all pro products, and I am disappointed when they do ship on time!

BTW, I ordered mine in 6/9, the day the 2.5's were announced. I upgraded the graphics card to the 6800 the day they were announced also...

Hey!

I ordered a Dual 2.5GHz....

I ordered yesterday, and it was shipped today!
I even got a fed-ex number and they upgraded shipping for free.

Are people still waiting for 2.5's to ship?

dunno man, I am kinda pissed right now lol

or like I said before, they wanted to keep you happy cause you ordered so many

There was a rumor that Apple's Order System got messed up, and right now I'm starting to believe it. I order the afternoon of June 9 and this is what I get for it. If I don't see my order shipping Monday, I'm going to phone Apple again.

OKOK: WTF?!

Either you are really evil and photoshopped that receipt or Apple is the devil.

I oredered a STOCK machine on the 22nd and I'm still being told that my shipping date is the end of the month!

Yeah so I should just go ahead and cancel my order and re-order now?

Should have thought of that in the first place!

---

Does anyone think I'll be better served by placing an order with Apple at this point? Let the first person to ship win my money.

If I had had my precog hat on , I would have done this in the first place.

The dark side is too strong. you must not resist. No longer am i a pawn for Master Jobs, but a pawn for Darth gates. the sith will destroy you all! bwuahahahahhaha

...

BWUAAHAAhahahahuWUAHWA

...

BUWWAHAMAHAUUAWHAHH AHWAHAHAH tee hee

...

i'm just giddy that I'm most getting a dell AND a mac...it was probably a better choice as well

and for only $1042 i get a pretty damn fast pc: 3.06 GHZ hyper threading with 1 GB of RAM and a dual drives (DVD RW and CD RW)...plus $600 for the x800 xt.

I hope you guys get your orders in the.... order you placed them.... but i expect some of you willbe lucky to receive your order before august (if you ordered the 6800)

good luck... oh, and i doubt that complaining will make a difference, i did, and all they said is the same thing "we're shipping them in the order we received them"

edit: i canceled both orders......for an alienware....because neither of those 2 computer will last me 6 years, so my parents recommended i get just a super computer.... and i did.... unfortunately it was a pc because i need autocad......i will look back into buying a mac when i get to college and have the money, now i have been totally enveloped by the dark side

I'm wondering how many of those who ordered within the first week and are still waiting had their ordered "cancelled" and then resubmitted on their order status webpage? Apple claims that this would have no effect on shipping order (I never changed the order; this just appeared there one day), but I'm feeling suspicious....

In six months the waiting will probably be starting all over again for the dual 3.0s.

That sounds very familiar: Last year my PMG5 was delayed until October and so I cancelled it thinking that new ones might appear in January. No dice! Then rumor sites said "February updates coming!" Then they said "March!" Then "April!" And so on. And as you know it was an incredibly long update from Summer of last year until Summer of this year! If I could have foreseen that I would have placed my order for a 2.0 again back in October 2003! So, I think I'm sticking with this machine for a while. Only thing I don't like is that Apple Insider seems to think that it was delayed due to LEAKAGE of cooling system!!! Yikes! Good thing I bought Apple Care.

Ok, I am frustrated again. After I posted on Wednesday I had gotten this e-mail from Apple stating they were preparing the G5 for shipping I anxiously waited Thursday and Friday to receive the e-mail with the tracking number. No deal. So I called them up today and asked if they did not intend to ship within the 24 to 48 hours stated in the e-mail why bother even sending it? The answer was not very conclusive as the lady (we could feel she was tense) said the order still showed on or before 09/03. There must be something really wrong with Apple's tracking system... Again this order was for a CTO dual 2.5GHz with 1GB of RAM, 250 GB of HD and no other changes.

guys, gals,

please! this is a hoax. i've ordered the very machine he's talking about and that is a CTO system, a custom order (because its got the ATI 9800XT video card). they don't spell out the specs on a system like that on the order status page for CTO systems. on the status page, a G5 like that is only listed as "2.5DPG5 CTO". in order to see all the components itemized, you have to hit the 'details' button.

its a good fake, very clean, but not real.

What ever are you going on about?
This is REAL and my tracking is here: FedEx Tracking
It will be here on the 10th (supposedly) and I will take pictures and show you. I have no agenda I was just surprised mine shipped in 2 days, We were buying this for a Final Cut Pro workstation and weren't expecting it for 4-7 weeks as apple said... I don't know what else to post to prove this is legit, I suppose you will think the photos are fake too.. whatever :-p

Not necessarily. For a LONG time, my system was showing up as you said, with just a generic "2.5DPG5 CTO" until I pressed the "Details" button. But it changed today to show "2.5DPG5/1GB/250/SD/R9800XT/56K/BT-USA". This estimated ship date also changed today to "On or before 9/21", but that date is apparently wrong as (supposedly) my machine is in final assembly and will ship today.

I have no faith at all they it will ship on the 20th, they are trickling out the door as it is

no offence, but what date did you expect? The apple website states 4-6 weeks delivery on a stock g5, and yours has an nvidia 6800 which on its self isn't supposed to ship until late august, so your date doesn't seem so far off to me.

There are tons of other guys who have been waiting waaaay longer for a stock machine, and seeing some guys who ordered very late, got theirs shipped already. Those guys have all the right to be disappointed, but I wouldn't be if i were in your shoes, so far it looks good

I didnt say anything about being disappointed and the estimate is exactly what I expexted, but there is no way I am going to put when it takes 4-6 weeks to order an $8000 computer.

I was merely posting my date to show others. kthanks.

I guess we all want it to be different, that our machines get here the day after we ordered them, now that would be sweet

Like you, and many others, I'm waiting as well.. hopefully the wait will be over soon.. there are a lot of people with 8/20 est. shipping dates, so we should be seeing large shipments if they can come true with that date.. if not, then i'll set my expectations a couple weeks back (and my expectations are already beginning of sept.. that's about 3 months after I placed my order (june 13th))

$8000 computer?? Damn, what config did you order?? Unless, of course, you ordered a 30" screen too...

Yea, that would be sweet. My favorite commercial of all time is one from like 2 years ago. I don't even remember what it was for but a little kid ordered a football online and it came out of his printer

If only my G5 did that
