Have they still not released 360 footage? The Battlefield console exhibit at GamesCon was apparently PS3-only.

It's obvious the 360 is going to be shittiest of the ports/versions. Does that change anything for me? Not really. Even if its catastrophic I won't find out til I already have the game in my hands.

Edit: Homefront style.

There's no way it'll be "catastrophic." It just might be nearly identical to BC2.

Regardless, I'll be picking it up, along with MW3. I just can't stay away.

Well, the console version can't look like that because it's capped at 32 players.
Edit: Correction, 24 players.

Honestly it could be capped at 16 and i'd still be twice as excited as MW3

Didn't an editor at one of these sites mention that if you hated BC2, you'd hate Battlefield 3 as well? Weren't you guys all anti-BC2?

I hope y'all don't feel about B3 the same way I felt about Homefront.

True, but i accepted MW and MW2's dominance of the online shooter, enough so that i made my self like it. Black ops on the other hand...

Honestly BF3 is your last hope. Halo is dying (and dead as a large-scale group on this forum).

I was playing Homefront a few weeks ago, and seeing as its the closest thing the Battlefield I've played (Sorry but Squad Deathmatch in BC2 is atrocious), all I can say is, I hope DICEs maps are better. Which I doubt. Because they'll be multi-purpose as well.

I hear a lot of people talk about the adrenaline rush of CoD, and I think I understand what they mean. The pacing is fast, thanks to the limited size of the maps, but the player count is (usually) low enough that it's not chaos. In Homefront and BF the maps are larger, but it seems to alternate between either being too slow-paced or too chaotic (A well organized assault by 12+ players is a rarity), which really isn't all that entertaining for long stretches. I do kind of wonder what the future of FPS will be like and if I'll enjoy it.

What an interesting day for EA to release this!

Battlefield 3 Physical Warfare Pack Gameplay Trailer - YouTube

One thing is for certain, BF3s PR people crush the shit out of MW3s.

Open Beta!

Battlefield 3 open beta begins September 29 | Joystiq
The beta map to be played ad nauseam is "Operation Metro." It pits two sides against each other in Rush Mode, where one team is tasked with destroying several sets of objectives, while the other defends.
See you then.

There better be a demo for 360 users. I'm not buying this game until I try it first. And even then it better be ****ing amazing.

It looks like this game is more beta than I gave it credit for – or what players receive on release day will be a nice buggy mess. Can't rule that out.

One man's 360 observations:
Played on 360 for about 4.5 hrs last night. Its definitely a beta and a buggy one at that. After numerous messages "Failed to connect to EA servers" I'm able to get into to a game. This causes squading up to be nearly impossible. I've fallen through the map once, seen a player model stay at a 45º angle, most players that are prone are half way through the floor, the screen jitters, flickers and stutters at times, grenades cause some bushes to "stretch out" about 30'. The game hard locked on me once while in the menu attempting to join a match and froze once while switching sides.
Most irritating thing I've read so far isn't beta related, but terrible none-the-less. Apparently weapon and class unlocks are segregated by side? (Think OpFor vs SAS) Insane.

With release day looming, this isn't looking good at all. The Uncharted 3 beta was fantastic, even 6 months ahead of its release date.

This is why you'll hear me say absurd things about being in or out of "game shape" when it comes to titles.

Someone on NeoGAF commented that if EA is hoping to win the hearts & minds of COD players with this beta, they may have erred.

Put a little time in the Beta this morning before i left for work...quick impressions...

Visuals/Graphics
I think we all expected (from all the released footage) that this game would look great and it does. The particle and smoke effects are phenomenal and the lighting and destructive environments make the maps come alive unlike anything I've ever played. I didn't think it would be "impressive" from the standpoint of our modern multiplayer shooter (MW2) but it was.

Maps (or map for this beta)
The "operation metro" map for the beta is HUGE, i know the gametype requires the size but even the smaller layouts (i assume will be used for deathmatch and the like) are still pretty big, This game is all about cover and quick movements then run and gun fighting style. The areas are wide open, with spread out cover, I had a hard time finding a spot i felt "safe" in, while in COD there were many obvious choke points to go to. This should play to the balance of the game, hopefully.

Gameplay/Gun Mechanics
This is the biggest difference between Battlefield and COD, the guns feel much looser, the bullets penetration is accurate and hit detection seems to be spot on but the actual recoil and bullet spray is much more realistic than COD. For me this is a good thing, and really plays into the style of game.

Overall with my short time, I'm impressed.

Sorry, I can't remember if you were a great CoD fan or not. I mean over 20 days of on-line MW2 great btw.

Otherwise thanks for the review, think that I'll try it over the weekend.

I think your right, it's more halo than cod and that's a good thing,
I'll be interested to hear everyone else's impressions

The scopes usually come several levels-up in a class. That's the way BC2 worked, anyways.

Very very Homefront-ish. Graphics aren't any better than MW2- IMHO. Lots of time spent running, large maps. Great when your team wins a round and it opens up more of the map, but I have no idea wtf I did to get some of the ribbons. Couldn't figure out how to stop sway (hold your breath) when using the sniper. Only played Demolition type game, maybe a TDM equivalent will be better. Seemed to be getting a few assists - shite connection or am I just shite?

Doubt that I'm going to get this.

So I should expect a mixture of my 2 favourite games, HALO and Homefront. With the bugginess of Homefront.

You should play the beta if you're thinking of getting the game. Whether it will be a deciding factor (for you) is another matter. Basically playing the beta has saved me 60€.

I'm hoping they add TDM in during the week at some point. Considering they've never had TDM, they should be beta testing that shit anyway.
