Sorry if I seem like a Mac newbie, but I'm not. Could you please tell me what DP2 and DP3 is?

This is easy.

DP means Developer Preview..

so DP3 is Developer Preview 3 of Mac OS X. The same logic with DP2.

Actually I think in AppleSpeak Developers Preview is their new and innovative euphamism for "Alpha."
