And no, I don't mean who's going to divvy up our parkland for oil wells, once it all becomes a giant burning dumpster fire from lack of maintenance...
This weekend there were a Women's March, Native American March, and ProLife March happening in DC (and probably more). There was a notable conflict between some Prolife boys waiting for their bus to go home at the Lincoln Memorial, where the Native March was headed for closing ceremonies.
Catholic school boys vs Native American Vietnam war veteran: who wins?
Are the boys just misunderstood naive children, or were they hooting at girls and yelling MAGA all day?
Did Black Hebrews (or muslims, depending on your facebook feed) stir the boys up unnecessarily? Or were MAGA hats and build the wall chants probable cause for outrage?
Is turning the other cheek still taught in religious schools? How about respecting elders?
Is the tomahawk chop, considered at best mildly racist at ball games, even remotely appropriate at a Native American March?
Should the Native elder have pushed his way through the MAGA kids, or should they have made way for his delegation?
Find out tomorrow on the Today Show, as they interview our young hero, the beleaguered Catholic School Kid.
1. The confrontation was started by a "group" of 4 Black Hebrew Israelites. As is typically the case they exhibited what all too often happens when people utterly devoid of wisdom gain a little bit of knowledge. Which is to become insufferable at best and straight up assholes at worse.
2. The MAGA hat wearing Catholic school boys were quite rowdy even before the provocations by the Black Hebrew Israelites. There is video of them harassing women as they were walking by and even saying "It's not rape if you enjoyed it!" in response to someone questioning if they still were opposed to abortion in the case of rape or incest. And there is additional bad behavior in this recent history ...
3. The Native American elder did not walk into the MAGA crowd ... he walked into the space between them and the Black Hebrew Israelites in an attempt to keep them separated and diffuse the tension. The MAGA crowd then partially encircled them in a manner that is justifiably seen as unnecessarily aggressive at best and threatening at worse. Their "tomahawk chop" gesture and attempts to drown out the Native Americans chants with their own can't be credibly seen as anything other than mocking for the simple fact that they certainly don't know the language.
4. The smug MAGA hat wearing kid that blocked the Native American elder's path with that smirk on his face was absolutely being disrespectful. The racist and asshole-ish behavior on the part of the Black Hebrew Israelites in no way justifies his own.
“He did not know how long she had been looking at him, but perhaps for as much as five minutes, and it was possible that his features had not been perfectly under control. It was terribly dangerous to let your thoughts wander when you were in any public place or within range of a telescreen. The smallest thing could give you away. A nervous tic, an unconscious look of anxiety, a habit of muttering to yourself—anything that carried with it the suggestion of abnormality, of having something to hide. In any case, to wear an improper expression on your face (to look incredulous when a victory was announced, for example) was itself a punishable offence. There was even a word for it in Newspeak: facecrime, it was called.”
