Hey everyone-
Is anyone out there running Maya on a 17" PB? Just wondering how the PB handles it and what people's opinions are...thanks!

I am running it on a 12"
Runs like a champ. Rock solid. Will only move on the 17" faster.

I was running it on a 15" and it ran great until I sent it back. (WHITE SPOTS = PB SARS) Still waiting to get it back.

not to derail the original post of Maya being used on the 17" pb, but I was looking at maya's qualification page and it says that the 12" and 17" powerbooks are not qualified due to the video cards (12 and 17) and the screen resolution (12). Can anyone elaborate on this? I don't want to get the program for school, and find out that it doesn't run correctly.
Thanks

it will run fine. The HW Qualifications are just AWs way of coving there butts. There is a 5.1 update in the works and should qualify the new hardware.

Hi everyone,
Regarding the 12" PB screen resolution not being adequate, i've seen Maya 4.5 PLE running on the above notebook and the menu names (i.e. File, Edit, etc) are all truncated so "File" is actually "Fil" + half of "e". All the menu names are like that.
I havent seen Maya on anything else, so thats all i can say
Hope that helps!

You can run Maya just fine on a 12" Powerbook. Yes, the menus will get truncated, but you can just use the hotbox instead to get around that.

I've yet to have a problem with 5 under Panther on my 15" 1GIG Alu.

Its has a small display bug with the menue high lite of the hotbox, and the script display is off centered, but thats all I have had problems with.

Hate to say it but you'll be happier with it on a PC...it has always seemed very unresponsive on the Mac..any Mac...it just isn't there yet. You can get by..especially if you're learning but once you get used to the PC workflow there's no comparison...imo
I was even checking it out on a Dual G5 and although it was rendering faster than a 2.8 Xeon the interface was still way more sluggish.
And I wouldn't want to give up on the opportunity of getting a badass video card..which you'd be doing with the PB
Its unfortunate..hopefully 5.5 or 6 will include further os x optimization
