can someone point me to a utility that will show me where my HD space is going?
there was a utility for windows that i used to use that will search the HD and kinda "graph" the directories and their space size.

I guess i am one of those un-neat people and i seem to forget where i install things and just forget ...

Well, what I do now and then is just put the disk into "list view", make sure the View options are set to "calculate all sizes", and then sort by size. If I want to look more specifically, open that item with the flippy triangle and see how its contents are ranked by size, too.

I do the same as Tooki. I should warn you to turn it off though or you will see the Finder use up your processor whenever you use list view on a big folder.
