I've mentioned it before, I like supporting content creators for their work but I hate ads, hate them with the passion of a 1000 angry wookiees. So now there's Youtube Red for $10 /mo; no ads (I use adblock anyway), money goes directly to the people you watch (a large portion of it), and you get a few new features (like background play on mobile and new "Red only content"). Looks okay to me, I'm in.

Sounds like a communist plot of some sort. You Tube Red, go on.

edit: it depends how greedy these bastards get - You Tube has grown more annoying with the ads lately, this announcement certainly can't help. I suspect the ads are about to get worse.

There is a temptation.

I'm irritated by the ads enough if it's a short video, I've just started backing out if an unskippable ad comes up.

The price is ridiculous. It apparently includes Google's music service, but the inability to unbundle that , IMO, will probably kill interest.

That's the thing. It's more than I want to pay for clips of people getting kicked in the balls.

Totally. If it's unskippable, I'll back out and either watch something else or leave.

One time the wife and I went to pull up RedBox to look for a movie to rent. Somehow I typed in RedTube.com and hit enter before I realized what happened. Luckily my ninja fingers hit command-W before she was able to fully grasp what she had seen. I swear it wasn't muscle memory taking over.

There's far less chance I'll ever type xnxxbox.

I usually avoid trailers, so I've never noticed that, but I'll get trailers as ads, which irritates me since I'm trying to ****ing avoid them.

$10/mo is too much for no premium content (full movies, tv shows, etc). I already pay for amazon prime and netflix. This would be more than I pay for Netflix.

For brief original clips (how it should have ended, etc), video game walkthrough, instuctional home repair, occasional music video nostalgia, too much.

They're working on exclusive full movies and TV shows, but so far I've only heard about something with Pewdiepie.

I already use Adblock and Ghostery. I have no need/desire for any other features of the $10/month program.

True, but at least 90% of my YouTube consumption is on my iPhone/iPad.

Yeah, content producers are already removing their content, since they have no choice but to accept the terms or have their content go dark for non-subscription users as well.

Yeah, this is going to be a minor problem that rankles some folks: Some gaming videos are getting blocked in the United States due to YouTube Red

Honestly, I don't know what to think of Red just yet. Google has ideas that succeed, but they also have quite a few ideas like Google+ that we eventually forget about.

With Red, have they said what happens to existing subscription channels like /Drive ? Will they carry on being a separate subscription, or go into the Red subscription?

It'll be much easier if you just comply.
