I have a Ipod with video 30g.

Same thing happened to me, downloaded update and when it started installing it ejected the iPod and iTunes was stuck with an "Updateing iPod" dialog.
All I did was unplug the usb cable from iPod and plugged it back in again and then the update installed fine.
Although I can't find the new Search function? There's a new brightness option in Settings but I can't find Search anywhere!!

i cant find the search function either, but i have noticed that the scroll letters appear when i scroll really fast. i really think its lame on apples part to not offer all the software functions for 5th gen ipod owners . its ok though, im not tooo stressed over it...just a bit annoyed.

I've read over at iLounge that the search function is only available on the new iPod and new nano. And I agree that it's bit of a disappointment ... probably done to make make everyone upgrade to the newer models.
Here's hoping that a later update includes this functionality for previous models.
Yep I've noticed that quickscroll letter thing too.

yeah...i remember when the 3g didnt have on the go playlist function, but it was later added on with an update. heres to the same delayed function with the 5th gen.
things that update on your current 5th gen ipods after update:
you have brightness control in your settings
you have letter view when scrolling through your library very fast
you have the ability to play games
you have the ability for gapless playback (biggest issue solved for me)
not too shabby..new itunes and new functions on my recent (2 month old 60gb) ipod, except for the lame ticket i received for something i didnt do, today was a good day.
