I'm going to transfer some large files from a Windows 95-computer to my G4.

I've got an older Conner HDD which I've tried to install for a couple of days ago.

But I got problems:
I can format the HDD, and then it shows up on the desktop, but after a reboot the HDD-icon is gone. Why?

If the problem above can be solved, can I format this drive with FAT-32 or FAT-16 file system, copy my files and then read them on MacOS or VirtualPC 3.0?

When you reboot, do you fully shut down and then restart the computer, or do you do a cold restart? Sometimes there occur glitches that can only be resolved through a shutdown and restart. I have a hard drive that inconsistently disappears, but I can always get it back on the desktop in this way.

I do occasionally transfer large files from a PC disk to the Mac and vise versa. What I do is connecting the PC disk using the connector of the internal hard disk and startup the computer using an external SCSI hard disk. Then I could copy the files from the PC disk to the external SCSI hard disk and vise versa.

I found that Mac OS 9 and earlier versions can mount FAT16 PC disks but only Mac OS 9 can mount FAT32 hard disks. I am not sure about ATA/66 disks but my pre-G3 Power Mac can mount ATA/33 without adding anything to it.
