I have Comcast as my internet provider and cable. When viewing HD channels, I noticed a slow down in online games and viewing youtube. Is this normal? I have the 8mbs option vs the 6mbs download. I've never experienced this before!

HD television takes WAY more bandwidth than SD TV, so it makes sense that you might see some slowdown in broadband performance when you're pulling HD TV. But you only notice this while actually watching the HD channels? I would have to know more about how Comcast handles their high-end channels before I could say anything about this.

I haven't had cable for years (and I never will ever again!), but TV signals should not affect the Internet connection. If there's something different about it with HD vs. SD, I haven't heard anything about it.

Cable and data channels are discrete. I'm also a Comcast customer. Your slowdowns are more likely due to other people in your neighborhood surfing while you are and clogging the network. If you really do get degraded performance every time you watch HD (even at 3am) then you might have a faulty splitter- are your modem and set-top box fed from the same outlet? If so, try buying a top-end splitter and see if that solves your problem.

They are discrete but are you using a splitter at the wall to split the wall jack into two coax ports, one for modem and one for TV and any amplifiers on your coax splits?
