I am actually glad that P2 is being pushed back. Now maybe I can justify Reach since New Vegas is the only other title I want coming out this year.

I just now bought Fallout 3 (keeping in line with my tendency to get into games a year or two late) for $20 for PS3, so I'll have some game time to log before I pop out the wallet for New Vegas. I guess I'll get around to it in 2012.

Reach will be my next 360 purchase. Hope to see you guys out there.

I pose a question:

If you had the opportunity to buy a new copy Tekken 6 for $10, would you do it?

Goldeneye multiplayer trailer and screens take us back | Joystiq

Overheard @ Gamescom: A development house divided | Joystiq
"There's a house divided, at least amongst ourselves," said Activision production coordinator Graham Hagmaier while presenting a demo of the game at Gamescom this week. "A lot of us play with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. I prefer this particular scheme [the Classic Controller], just because I used to play a lot of FPS games on [the Xbox] 360 and PS3, and for a lot of people those are very popular formats. But it just depends on your proficiency with the controller."
lulz @ he "used to" play a lot of FPS games on the 360 and PS3.

Italian City Pissed At Gran Turismo 5
The issue isn't just that the Piazza or the surrounding structures, the most notable dating back to the 1300s, are in a video game. It's also the site of the Palio di Siena is a bareback horse race run around a D-shaped course there since 1656. You can see in the video above the Piazza's distinctive architecture, plus the flags and colors of the 17 contrade or districts, which contest the Palio. Piazza del Campo also is used as the name of the track.

...

"You can not use images of Contrade, in this case the flags without authorization," Anna Carli, CEO of the Consortium for the Protection of Palio di Siena, told Corriere Fiorentino. "Given the relevance of the game with no history and references to our party, in particular with the use of images of flags of the contrade, we would not otherwise authorize the use."
I couldn't parse this shit for the life of me.

Call of Duty: Black Ops On PC Will Have Mod Tools
Not that it applies to us, but...

THQ: Buying Used Games Is "Cheating"
"I don't think we really care whether used game buyers are upset because new game buyers get everything", THQ's creative director for wrestling titles told Gamasutra. "So if used game buyers are upset they don't get the online feature set I don't really have much sympathy for them".

"That's a little blunt but we hope it doesn't disappoint people. We hope people understand that when the game's bought used we get cheated".

Little risky going after the consumer with this argument. Target GameStop all you want for making the industry so dependent on used game sales, but Average Joe buying the things just wants a cheaper game. Who knows, maybe - heaven forbid - he can't afford $50-60 for a video game!

Just read Ferraris will be absent from the new Hot Pursuit, which all but crosses it off my purchase list. Which is a shame, as I could go for a new racer, and Blur and Split/Second both did not impress me.

That reminds me... I forgot to tell you about the other night when we were playing Burnout Paradise. After you logged off, I went to see how many online games were available. There was a whopping 8 games to chose from. I think there were less than 20 people online total.

Oh and I saw a preview/demo video of Bullet Storm on xbox live. That game looks sweet. Too bad it comes out around the same time as Portal 2.

I have high hopes for Hot Pursuit, if it promises some of the co-op fun that paradise provided (assuming a few of us pick it up) I'm all in for purchasing, and we all know I'll cave to peer pressure.

Why GameStop's "Store Of The Future" Is Anything But
A central design feature of these new stores is the fact you can buy downloadable content. You walk in, swipe your credit card, and you get a redeem code for the DLC you just bought. You then have to go home and download it. Sure, you'll get loyalty points for doing so, but does GameStop HQ not see the absurdity in this practice? In thinking people will leave their homes, go to a store, give that store money, then return home to download something that had they stayed at home, would have finished downloading before they'd even arrived at the GameStop?

Rumor: $50 Million Video Game Cancelled

EA won't bow to Medal of Honor controversy | Joystiq

Gran Turismo 5 Designer Responds To Italian Controversy
When asked if the flag problem was going to hold up the game's release date, Gran Turismo 5 designer Kazunori Yamauchi replied via Twitter, "We can remove them in an instant." However, he added that the flags are part of the scenery's radiant beauty.

"Erasing them is somewhat regrettable," Yamauchi added.

Remembering A Red Dead Horse
Vince Zampella, former co-chief of Modern Warfare studio Infinity Ward and now at Respawn Entertainment, ensnared the audience for this chat with a brief tale about his Red Dead horse. It involved the bond of his cowboy and the cowboy's beast, the many adventures shared, the casual whistling issued by the cowboy one day — prompted by a button press by Zampella — for the horse to trot over to waiting cowboy, the unfortunate late realization that horse was about to cross a railroad track soon to be occupied by a steaming locomotive and, finally, a bloom of smashed horse. Zampella recalled his shock and his understanding that something random, something emotional, and something great had just occurred.

Xbox Live audio quality boosted in fall update | Joystiq

Redesigned Xbox Avatar appears ready to Kinect with you | Joystiq

Reminder: Beta Test Kinect, You Will Be Silenced [Update]
Because of the 360's improved voice chat tech - or, if you're the tin-hat-wearing type, because Microsoft is crazy-paranoid about beta testers spilling the beans - anyone accepting and downloading the beta will only be able to use party and private chat with other users in the beta.
Here's my favorite part:
We've also heard that because of the new avatars Kinect will be using, you'll lose any avatar marketplace purchases, as the old cloths don't fit the new characters. Presumably, these would all come back in November once they'd been re-tooled.
lulz if MS submarines all those old purchases.

Burnout Devs Were Making A Skate Or Die Game
Things didn't exactly work out as planned, though. "We were told ‘you can't just make a Tony Hawk game – it's got to be like GTA,' and that was the first time we were like, ‘Really?' ‘It's got to be open world.' Well, what does that mean? Nobody really knew."

Gran Turismo 5 Will Accommodate Optional Hard Drive Install
5000 different Nissan Skyline's take up a lot of space; But seriously, the screenshot for the article is amazing, rivets notwithstanding.

10 Gb seems like a decently small install size, compared to Forza 3 at about 5.8 GB which doesn't have nearly the same quality of modeling that GT5 seems like it has. Of course, I have no clue what the average PS3 game is.

I know I've hated on it and its past iterations, but it's becoming more and more likely that I'll be buying GT5. They seem to be adding more for some of us who aren't hardcore sim purists (i.e. anal-retentive boring car geeks).

And I've got about 450 GB to spare, so I'm guessing I'll opt for the larger install.
I only mention this (again) because I love rubbing it in that I could install a 500GB laptop hard drive myself for $80, which is impossible on 360, as we all know. Eat it.

PS3 needs this. I hope Sony follows suit.

Yeah, I hate the new one. I'm glad Microsoft is fine with ruining their avatars' aesthetic appeal for what is sure to be a failed device.

Xbox Live subscription prices to rise; $60 for 1 year beginning in Nov. [update] | Joystiq
In the US, a one-month Gold subscription will rise for $7.99 to $9.99; three months from $19.99 to $24.99; and a full year from $49.99 to $59.99. Check Major Nelson's post for price changes in other regions.

If you want to extend your Xbox Live membership without paying the new higher costs, you have two choices: 1) you could renew your subscription for one year through Xbox.com for for $40; or 2) load up on prepaid subscription cards, like, now!

Update: Microsoft has informed Joystiq that the $99 price will not change for the Xbox Live Family Plan, also launching this November. So that's suddenly a better deal.
I'm at a loss here. With the amount of times I've seen Live on a deal the past year I thought for sure it'd head in the opposite direction. It also makes a lot less sense in the wake of the family plan.

WTF?

Sony, yeah...but Nintendo's free online definitely feels free, especially with the Virtual Console trickle of classic games slowing to a crawl.

Weird, $10 is the same price as Hulu+. Probably coincidence, but it'd be interesting if they had something up their sleeve in regards to this.
