Following the release
on Tuesday of the first developer beta of iOS 9.2, Apple has now seeded a version for
pre-registered public beta testers to try out. As is usual for a first beta, testers will need to install a new certificate, meaning that they would have to completely erase and reset the device in order to downgrade back to iOS 9.1 once they install the new beta. The update includes support for Safari View Controller Action Extensions, among other browser improvements.
The new beta includes the usual bug fixes, stability enhancements, and security updates, but also includes improvements to the Safari View Controller (essentially the in-app web browser used by third-party applications) to allow it to behave more like Mobile Safari. As always,
MacNN strong suggests that users interested in testing the new beta install it on a spare iOS device rather than one in daily/routine or important use, as the beta is known to have serious bugs. The final release of iOS 9.2 is expected in about a month, if the usual testing cycles hold true.
