ah, thank you for that....
sometimes osx isnt as intuitive as one would hope....i love it but thinking about total newbies trying to figure out some of this stuff....like why isnt that in the help files?
and also, i thought you could decide on the number of passes that the secure delete made...was that in and then taken out at some point?

How many overwrites does secure empty do in the final version of Panther? As I recall reading, the early betas let you pick from three different numbers of overwrites, but they took out the choices in the later builds...to which choice did they lock us in?

From Apple's Website

You can securely delete files theyre overwritten with the same 7-pass algorithm approved by the Department of Defense by choosing Secure Empty Trash in the Finder preferences.

(Note that it *isn't* in the Finder preferences... it's in the Finder menu!)

Well honestly, it's pretty intuitive to look right below the regular Empty Trash command! Why put it in the help file when it's so obvious?

Because stupid people like me prefer to right click on the trash icon in the dock

What an oversight that this isn't doable via right-clicking the trash icon. I'm hoping that someone creates a hack to do it that way.
