I thought I was being clever by using the manual download link to update the software to 2.1 and avoid the corporate firewall, but didn't realize that you still need to activate it through said firewall.
Can I simply walk into a nearby AT&T store and get it activated, explaining my problem? Are they too n00bish to get the issue? Will it just connect, activate and start working regardless if my primary machine is at home?
Thanks.

downloading iTunes 8.0 and QT 7.5.5 to see if that helps... doubtful, but hopeful.
I guess the real question is, will AT&T be able to simply activate it, or should I wait until I get home and avoid the trouble?
Have a few phone calls to make, and my address book... oh, wait, MobileMe to the rescue!!! haha. I knew it would be good for something!

Yeah, I'm at work.
Two things though: they don't get iTunes 8 until the 16th (or 19th? I can't remember), so they can't do it. I found a cafe with wireless and yes, activated it, but of course, I did a restore, so my iPhone is back to square on (with 2.1, of course). Joy.
