This is my ninth presidential election since 1976. I'm 6 for 9 or .667. My three losses were the two Clinton wins and Obama. Yes, I voted for Jimmy Carter in 1976, the only Democrat presidential candidate I have ever voted for. I was young and stupid. In fact, besides Carter, I have only voted for two other Democrats since 1976. One a state senator and the other a state assemblyman where local issues and support are typically more important than party affiliation.

Re-phrase: I've voted for these two in more than one election over many years (always winners). Yes, "typical" is certainly open for interpretation and discussion.

I would also consider myself a libertarian (though not a Libertarian), yet I'm still batting 1.000. Despite the fact that I may not think that any of the cadidates are ideal, I do sometimes find that one candidate is clearly better than the other(s). I'll admit, however, that of the three Presidential elections that I've been eligible to vote in, I skipped one because I did not see that there was any candidate who was clearly better than the others out of any of those run by any parties.

I'm about the same age as you and became eligible to vote in the same election. I'm also 3 for 6. I bet we're either exactly the same 3 for 6 or exactly the opposite.

1988 - Voted for Dukakis out of youthful naiveté regarding political identification (In hind-sight I wished I voted for George H.W. Bush)
1992 - Voted For Clinton
1996 - Voted For Nader as an anti-Clinton protest
2000 - Voted for Gore
2004 - Voted for Green Party (Voted for McCain in my state primary though; He probably would have gotten my vote if he had obtained the Republican nomination)
2008 - Voted For Obama
